Seats

How many of you take a seat out with you to coyote hunt or do you just plop down on the ground? If you do take something to sit on how high is it?

Twenty years ago, I would just sit on the ground.
A few years later, I decided the ground was too hard, so I started to take along either a foam cushion, or an old "stadium seat".

In '08, I found an old "fisherman's stool" for a $1 at a yard sale, and started using it. It sits about 16" tall. And I can carry my calls/facemask/gloves/compact binocs/coyote drags all in it.

Then, back in '13, I went to Harbor Freight & bought an aluminum platform "step stool", with folding legs.
Took it home & gave it a homemade camo paint job. Since then...when my health has allowed, it is what I have used.
It too sits about 16".

The reason that I switched to a higher seat, was that I have serious back issues (and I am fat), so it's not easy for me to get down/up from the ground, starting about 5 years ago.

Usually plop down and rest on a tree or sapling. This year I bought a little roll up chair that gives back support, but the seat is on the ground. Got this for sitting in a field. Haven't used it yet, 67degrees and raining. Suppose to get 4" through next Tuesday. Holiday calling is not looking good. Have a Merry Christmas all!!

The areas I generally call are for the most part too brushy to sit on the ground. My field of view would be unnecessarily limited. So, I typically sit on either a turkey seat (in more open country) or a dove bucket. I recently got my hands on a Mojo Critter Sitter and hope to try it out in the near future.

Child's camp chair from Academy. Seat 12" off ground and has a short back. Unfortunately they have discontinued so mine has been patched numerous times.

I'm short so this is perfect height to let me rest elbows on knees.

You don't sit on ground in S. Tx. Everything either sticks or bites!

I use the Hunt Comfort Fat Boy Seat Cushion. I also sit on the ground and usually up against a tree. It is a little expensive ($79.00) but it has been worth it to me. It is very comfortable and allows extended periods of sit time during hunting. I have sat using it many hours at a time and no numb butt even with a total right hip replacement. It has a carry strap to carry with and the seat actually has a direction on how to sit on it. It is foam based with and double thick ultra soft gel and is waterproof. Over the years I have tried just about every seat out there but none compare to the Fat Boy. Just my 2 cents.

I have a simple Camo Cushion I use or I pack my thicker/wider Cushion off my FoxPro Predator Vest....I also bought myself a really nice foldable light weight padded chair that's the Cats Meow! I'll try to find a link with a pic of it,nice Thick 1 Piece cushion that is the Seat and Back Rest.Only used it 1 time when we did an all day Hog Hunt!

My Wife would complain about her back hurting when sitting on the ground so I bought her a seat made by Ameristep it sits about 6 inches off the ground with a back rest. She is happy with that now.
She didn't go one time so I borrowed her chair. After that I had to get my own.

My brother saw what I had and he started using a beach chair that sits about 6 inches off the ground.

I would never sit on the ground again.

The browning chair is what I use. It blends in with the low sage brush and is very comfortable. I use it for P.D. and coyotes. Nothing worse than a wet and cold behind. It packs nice over the neck and shoulder. Plastic hooks on the sling part do make some noise but, doesn't seem to be bad enough to scare anything. I bought my on Amazon, didn't cost much and would buy another in a heart beat! Rudy

I use a little three legged stool and a cushion with the little beads in it. In my areas sitting directly on the ground will get your butt wet even in the dryer times.

Sorry, I should have known to use search first. Honestly I didn't even think about it. I always thought I would be up to high and the yotes would see me easier so I plop down on the ground. Might have to try one of your ideas this year.

I've done both. The older you get (I am 60), you will realize it's very easy to get on the ground, but not to get off the ground (bad knees and back). No one wants to carry more stuff than they have to, but if you live anywhere other than flat wide open expanses, a chair is as necessary as your gun, shooting sticks and caller. Where I now live, it is quite hilly and some areas go uncut (hay). I use a four legged canvas chair that's about 12" off the ground. I made a chair from a stadium seat strapped to a low turkey hunting stool, but if I'm going to carry something anyway, I prefer the height of the chair. The vision advantage make it the best choice for me. When I first started predator hunting, a veteran hunter told me "your greatest challenge will be to see them." He was right.

The most important thing is to not turn on your caller or start calling until you are ready to shoot, and to sit still. I've had coyotes look at me from 10 yds away and not see me. Just sit still.

Gander Mountain was my latest purchase of many different seats over the years. Love the swivel seat ! Caught it on sale for $28 bucks delivered.
I did add length to the shoulder strap so i can throw it over my head & carry it on my side.
