shipping ammunition through post office?

Looks like Bass Pro committed a felony. I got some from them Saturday and it came Fedx. I doubt USPS has changed the regs.
 
If it would of been caught it would of been confiscated & the PO inspector paying them a visit.
Knowngly the PO will NOT take ammo, but if someone stuffed a box full of loaded ammo & shipped it then its possible it would make it to the end user.
Inspectors have been known to let ammo go through & follow it only to knock on the door after the carrier delivered it w/ a set of handcuffs. They stick a GPS tracker on it also to snag the seller & buyer.

Basspro can get into big trouble especially if its not marked.
Even w/smartpost it should of never been transferred to the PO for final delivery being ammo.

I'll bet this is what it was. It's shipped FedEx but they have some agreement with USPS where they do the final delivery so it's technically still a FedEx shipment even though USPS did the final delivery.

UPS also has entered agreement w/USPS for final deliver. I do not know if that includes ammo or not, however??

Not sure on ammo either, but I have received quite a few things at the Post Office that started out as UPS.
 
ooops. my mistake. it was in the mailbox so i figured usps put it there. after looking at the shipping label a little better it is a fedex label.

over the years we have had 100s of packages delivered by fedex. fedex has never, never, ever put a package in our mail box. first time for everything.

Fed Ex didn't put this package in your mail box. They delivered it to the post office and a USPS employee put it in your mail box.
 
A lot of my packages from MidwayUSA and a couple other places start out as UPS or FedEX but the final delivery to my home is done by the local postal carrier.

The USPS cannot handle ammo, even with the fed ex and ups agreements. Someone made a mistake somewhere. The tracking number will tell who was responsible for delivering it.

nope. tracking shows usps was never involved.
 
I just got a BassPro shipment Fedex too. They have Smartpost here so not sure who left it. Did notice another small address sticker barely on the box but burned it without investigating.
 
all i have to say is, nobody should run out and test the theory by shipping ammo through the USPS - the big company's can afford the fee's if they goof up because of a shipping arrangement between the carriers.

i doubt many of us would be willing to shoulder the legal and financial burden over a couple rounds of ammo or primed brass.

A gentleman that I used to work with was facing charges for this when he passed away from liver disease. He thought because he had a C@R license that he could ship through the USPS. He found out he was wrong.

Not sure how these big companies get away with it. But by now we should all know, if you buy the right license (aka bribe the right agency) you can do anything.
 
The USPS is fighting for financial survival right now. I'm sure that they have arranged to accept ammo, etc. from companies and shippers (like UPS/Fedex) in an acceptable and safe manner - for a fee - to deliver the ammo. etc. to an individual's address.

Just because they can do it doesn't mean that an individual can.
