Convince me that an elevated position, less than 150 yards from that podium was simply missed and left unsecured by mistake. I guess I am a conspiracy theorist for not believing that kid - acting alone could infiltrate that security perimeter, only to screw it up at the moment of truth.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but looking at Jeffery Epstein's demise due to a "security breach" that never should have happened, and how Trump is lucky to be alive due to a "security breech" that never should have happened, makes me start to wonder if people in high places wanted them both gone.
How did the shooter know to go to that particular elevated spot, with a direct line of sight, that wasn't manned, and apparently not even under surveillance, inquiring minds want to know!

I'm not buying onto this story... not yet at least.
LE snipers don't get "cleared" to take a shot at a threat...

I'm with you on this. However, two things.
1. From the video it did appear that the sniper could have shot before he actually shot.
2. This is what happens whenever we crucify LEO for making split second life/death decisions and it turn out to be the "wrong" decision. In these situations if a LEO hesitates it could cost him or someone else their lives.

We can give them the benefit of the doubt, but it is evident that they knew the assassin was there. It is evident that they left a chip shot location wide open. It is evident they repositioned their rifles to the assassins location ahead of time. It is evident that the guy using the tripod hesitated, he lifted his head away from his scope after the assassins attempted shot, then engaged. These are all troubling indicators that point to the rule of engagement was to shoot afterwards.

People see a guy with a gun and are trying to alert law enforcement, how could it be that weren't any warnings immediately relayed to the secret service that there may be a potential threat so that they could take appropriate measures to protect Trump.
Going to be interesting to watch the investigation into this, and how they try to cover their butts, there are a lot of questions to be answered.

How did he "sneak" a rifle past all of that security?
Why was there a ladder conveniently located on this building?
How did this twenty year old know the ladder was there?
How did he know that there was no security on that roof?
How did he know there would be line of sight on Trump from this building?

It could have been a "break down" in communication. Up until 9-11 all LEO and emergency responders used different "language". After 9-11 all 10 codes and such were done away with and normal language was put into place. That way all agencies and departments could understand each other during an emergency.
I 'heard' that LE was standing on shoulder of another to reach the roof and 'abandoned' when the guy pointed rifle at him. FBI in charge of the investigation so we'll probably just get the 'sanitized' version. Additionally, some USSS was pulled to cover Jill's talk same day. Somebody on TV even said he had a bumpstock on the rifle. Another showed ATTACK SPEED STUFF on the rifle.
