Sidearms--Who here carries a pistol while predator hunting, and what kind?

I always cary one of these two. Mostly the little Ruger in a holster. The S&W carries better but the Ruger is more accurate at a little longer distance.

Heritage rough rider with 22 mag cylinder, not fancy or expensive but works well and takes abuse. One morning while bowhunting I gut shot a coyote that I could not get to to stop. He ran about 70 yds into the thickest brush patch in the county, I crawled in and found him still alive. That revolver was real handy since it was so thick there is no way I could have ever drawn a bow.

5.7x28 with 2x scope..all I carried....but will probably change after today...added a 204 Ruger...maybe - both pistol up to 100 yds., rile beyond 100

Usually my Taurus 66 .357. Not so much for hunting, but for the crackheads cookin' meth in the woods. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

My 2 main huntin' cannons, 480SRH and 45 Colt Bisley BH, are too big for what I want as a "sidearm". My 357 S&W 28-2 sees some use, but my Single-six in 32 mag with some hot loads sees the most. I feel this cartridge is under-rated, and know it will kill a yote with no problem...........2MG

Here in pa we are not allowed to hunt with a semi-auto firearm.. so if i plan on hunting with my handgun I carry a S&W 686 357mag... otherwise for "protection" I carry my duty sidearm, a Glock model 31 357sig w/ nightsights and tactical light. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Bob in Idaho mentioned the .41 mag in the the Taurus.

Great little powerhouse!!!!

But alas, I don't own one .... only borrowed it!

What do I carry? ..... a 629 Mountain Gun .....

In case a black bear tries to beat a coyote's time to dinner!

Three 44s

I also have a hankering to shoot/own one of the S&W 500 Mag's. Just something about large, ominous, hard kicking hanguns, that drives me wild. So the next toy I carry afield, will probably be the 500 mag with the 2.5" barrel. I might also double it as my concealed carry weapon...HA HA

You might be suprised how little the S&W 500 kicks, not that it pussycat but its not that bad. It does however have one hell of a blast, it you are close enough and miss with the bullet you'll for sure leave what ever you are shooting at with 3rd degree burns, and you'll both end up deaf, lol.
