Sierra bullets

I can't recall seeing anyone using or even mentioning Sierra bullets here.

Is there a problem with them I don't know about?

I've used the Sierra 30 cal. bullets in the past and have had good luck with them.

I shoot a lot of 39gr in my .204 and 50gr SBKs in my .223 ARs and 700... never had a problem with them in any manner..I'm just usually using the 700 for longer distances and use 60gr most of the time..

I also shoot quite a few 52gr HPs in one of my ARs and they are really accurate..

I use lots of Sierra bullets, I really like the Blitz Kings I shoot 40 grain BK in both my ARs and 55 grain BK in my Swift.and i shoot either 155 Plama MKs or 175 MKs in my .308

I loaded up a bunch of 52gr matchkings in .223 for my NEF. Shoots about 1/2" at 100 with them. No complaints whatsoever

They shoot roughly 1" out of my AR which so far has been as good as she shoots. No trouble recommending them.

I use the 69 gr. MK at times in 22.also 168 and 175 in 308. I guess I kinda favour Bergers in the light stuff.

Bullets and certain reloading stuff are like optics in the shooting world, once a person kinda picks a brand they'll stay hard fast.

I'm open minded all the time. Though over the years have learned theres simply no cheap shortcut's. Some of the cheaper dogtown bullets and others taught me lessons on quality.

Kinda like Ford,Chevy,Dodge, ect.

Only sierras I shoot on a regular basis are 300g SMK's out of my 338 EDGE. They kinda got the market for that [beeep] right now.

Actually just got a box of 55g Blitz Kings to shoot out of my stevens 243. The very first load I tried with H4895 went .5" at 100 yards.

Sierra makes very accurate bullets. I just wish they'd make a plastic tip boat tail bullet for LR hunting...

Other then that, Im a Nosler NBT fan personally, and shoot a lot of Hornady VMAX and AMAX.

In the 70's, 80's. and early 90's Sierra was the most prominent bullet on the market. And they deserved it, they make great bullets. I shoot a bunch of different ones, too many to mention.

However along came a real hungry guy by the name of Steve Hornady who decided that through hard work he was going to put Hornady on the map. And he did. An entrepreneur that really worked hard. And at the same time Sierra got sucked up by a big conglomerate of sporting goods manufacturers. Kind of like what just happened to Barnes. And Hornady's sales shot up because he listened to the shooters. not the board of directors. Sierra did not seem to develop alot of new bullets, and different product lines. They just sat on their laurels. All-be-it a very good laurel. And then Steve took Hornady to the big time. Tom.

The vast majority of bullets I shoot are Sierra. In many calibers.

Despite Hogghead's rather slanted history. Sierra is still a privately held company. Until the mid 70's they were owned by the Leisure Group. Sierra is still the gold standard for the shooting competitions that use production bullets. They still win more matches than all other companies combined.

To sum it up: Their accuracy is top notch. Their customer service is the best in the bullet manufacturing industry. Their availability is as good as or better than other manufactures. Their QA/QC is excellent. Their price is competitive. Performance on game is reliable and consistent. I have taken every thing from bull frogs to bears with Sierra Bullets.

My apology. I did not know that Sierra was still a family run company. I thought that it had grouped together with some other sporting goods industry businesses, and that the original owner had sold the company.

Sorry for my mistake.

However I really wasn't knocking Sierra, I really like their bullets as I said. I just think they went a little tone death to the shooters and that is where Steve Hornady really started to make great inroads. Tom.

As guys above said, I too shoot Sierra's more than any other bullets. But, there are so many GREAT bullet makers today, I'm now buying them and do load testing, along with Sierra's, to see what shoots best.
The Sierra 55 gn HPBT is THE standard for my 22-250. And, the Sierra 90 gn HPBT is the standard for several 25 caliber rifles I have. In 7mm, the Sierra 100 gn HPBT is unequalled for accuracy in several 7x57's, a 7-08 and my 284. No other bullets come close.
One other aspect of Sierra as a company that I think is important, and that is, Sierra has a full time crew of guys dedicated to answering our questions on their payroll. That is HIGH class.

I didn't realize so many use Sierra.

I looked where I buy reloading components and see Sierra is a buck more for the 55 gr. BlitzKing, compared to Hornady's V-Max
I'm going to try Sierra again. They have been good in the past.

"And along came Steve Hornady and put Hornady on the map"? Are you nut's? Joyce, AKA Dad, Honey or Mr Hornady, put Hornady on the map long befor he died. Steve has done a super job of carrying on a great company and introducing new product's. My hat is off to Steve, his dad would be proud!

As for Sierra, at one time they made the most accurate bullet's in the world, maybe still do. But most bullet's today are so good that everyone is catching up. In Sierra's defence, it's hard to improve on perfection. Hunting bullet's is another story for me but I have not used a Sierra hunting bullet in well over 35 yrs. When I really want to see what a rifle will do I get a box of Matck Kings. Last time it was for my 25-06 Rem 700 and the load I worked up gave me my first bug hole ever, 100gr SMK 5 shots into .111" at 100yds! Hard to improve on perfection!

I shot a lot of 55gr Sierra fmjbt in my .223 for red fox. The Sierra guy told me the Sierra bullet will behave pretty much like a hornady vmax, more explosive than I would want for coyote.
