Simmons or Tasco?????

I am looking at a Simmons 44 Mag 3 X 10 or a Tasco World Class 3 X 9 scope for my new 223 ultra.

Are both good? Is one better than the other?

Anyone with bad or good experiences with either?

Thanks ahead

Definitely go with the Simmons. I tried for 6 months to get ahold of Tasco to find out about a 4x12 scope and I never got a reply back from them. I use the 3x9 on almost everything I have or had. They have never let me down. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Alright, guess I'll be the bad guy...

I admitt the only (2or3) simmons that I have owned in the past were their cheaper models. However, they also did not last more than a few months either. I would also put tasco in this catagory.

Since you will have to pay a little more money for Simmons or Tasco's better stuff, that same money would be better spend on a Leupold. Their 3x9, X-1 models are often around $169.00 or so. And you will know you have quality then. Another one is the 4x12 at around the $250 mark if I remember right.

Good Luck

Tasco and Simmons are at least 2 steps below the bottom of the ladder verses a Leupold or Bushnell's 3200 or 4200 series. Your rifle is only as good as the scope you put on it for the field. Never believe that because you pay 60 or 70 percent of what a Leupold is, your getting as good a rifle scope. To think so is HOG WASH!

I have both scopes. I personally prefer the Simmons 44 Mag over the Tasco World Class. The Tasco is much les forgiving of eye position, has a bad tendacy for black ring.

I've had years of service from a couple of 44 Mag scopes, and they haven't been babied.

That being said, my preference is to buy better still. Consider Weaver Grand Slam, Nikon Monarch, Bushnell 3200, or Leupold VX-II scopes over either, if you can afford to spend a bit more.

I don't have any experience with a Tasco but I sure like my Simmons scopes. I use them hard and often, never any problems.

You guys are all reflecting what i was fearing, thanks. I guess I'll just have to save for a good one and let the Ultra Varmint sit till I can get it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

If it means the difference between shooting & not, go grab a 44 Mag and have at it. You can replace it later, and it never hurts to have a spare scope on hand that has been proven at the range to be reliable.

I have looked through one new Leupold vari-x-1, and it was less clear than any Simmons I have tried. I would not be afraid of the Simmons 44 Mag.

My .300 Win Mag never bothered my Simmons at all. For a cheap, no frills scope it sure takes a beating. I still have nothing but Simmons and don't plan on buying a more expensive scope just to have it go bad. I don't think you will be disappointed trying the Simmons. I think alot of scopes are over-rated personally. Just my .02 worth of knowledge.

I would go with the Simmons. All my rifles wear them. I abuse my rifles like no other. In and out of my ranch pickups, down god for saken roads that rattle teeth out of your next born child. Always picking a rifle up off the floor after it falls out of the rack, hitting a unseen wash out that wasn't there 2 days ago. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Never had any problems all of mine are Atec's. Would'nt buy any other.

Handirifle,
Those coyotes were taken with a .25-06. The large hole you see is the result of me not leading the coyote enough and letting the bullet strike that hip bone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Handirifle,
I've got an aetec on a gun I rarely use any more I'd sell. I get along fine with it.It would get you by until you could afford better quality.I'm slowly changing to all Burris. Bluetrapper

Handirifle,
I have three simmons scopes,
The first was 4x Deerfield (cheap scope) that came on a .22 I bought to use as a trapping rifle. I used this for 5 years before I got a handgun. This thing go ABUSED. Dropped on concrete scope first, used to break multiple falls, more than one nasty A.T.V. wreaks, and never lost zero. It now resides on my loaner .22 go I can give a dependable low cost rig to whoever is in need at the time.
My second Simmons is Pro Air that I have had on a .22 for 3 years now. Tracking isn't real great on the target turrets but once zeroed, it stays there.
Last I have a Simmons Aetec that I had on a Savage .223 and moved to my HK 630 when I needed a scope in a pinch. I have often thought about replacing it just b/c it seems wrong to have a Simmons on a $1500 rifle. But everytime I realize its never let me down and does everything I ask it to so I have no real reason to replace it.
I have had a Tasco W.C. and Bushnell Banner- both were crap. So I would go with the Simmons.
Matt
