Smith M&P or Springfield XD?

All three are good guns. I never imagined I would sell my XD(M) Competition for a lowly Glock 17 Gen4 but that's exactly what I did after I tried one for the first time. I would pick the M&P over the XD personally. So much of what is best comes down to feel and personal preference. I don't much care for the feel of most 1911s but when I picked up an STI Trojan I knew I had to have one. It sorta goes like that.

Just picked up a full size M&P 40 VTAC edition about aweek ago. I have only put around 75 rnds thru it. So far so good. I am not as accurate with it as my other hand guns but I havn't shot it enough yet either. Sorry can't give any input on the XDs I have been a Glock and 1911 guy. Anyway here is some pics.

I had an XD for a number of years and by far was the most comfortable. I handled a buddy's M&P but wasn't too crazy about it. I now own a Glock and CC every day. It's not as comfortable as the XD but I shoot it better so that has to count for something.

I would handle and if possible, shoot each pistol you are interested in. There are so many flavors of poly pistols these days and everyone has their preference.

Good luck!

OK I picked up my new M&P40L CORE 5" yesterday, and I took it out to the range this morning, I was very happy with the gun as it came from the factory. I am planning to replace the trigger with a Apex trigger and put the Trijicon RMR sight on it.

Yellow Hammer, M&P .45 all the way.

I just wish there were more aftermarket goodies for the M&P - especially in .45 ACP.

Hey Terry,

I had the same problem & the solution for me was to invert the mag release to lefty, now I use my middle finger to drop the mag. No grip change & easy as pie.

I sold some fur a few weeks ago, and went ahead and bought an M&P shield in 9mm today. I went 9mm mainly for the cost of ammo as I really want to do more pistol shooting now that I got this one.

Anyway, now I need to find a left hand holster for it. I want a good CC holster probably an IWB. I will start looking for that tomorrow, but not a lot of options locally. I will probably only find right hand, but hopefully they will give me an idea of what I like and then I can look for the left hand version on line. Any lefties (or righties) that have input on such a holster please chime in.

I love my white hat and they are native Texans like you and I. Not sure if they make a lefty or not though, I'd be surprised if they didn't though.

The XDM is an outstanding all around gun, it comes in either 4.5" or 3.8" barrels. That would be my pick if were considering a striker fir ed gun like the 3 you mentioned....OR as someone else pointed out the Sig Pro #2022 is a fine pistol and would be my #1 pick in the $500 and under category. I had one in .40 and regret ever getting rid of it, the trigger will impress I guarantee...good luck

Good choice. I prefer the XD over the XDm or XDs, but the M&P shield is mighty nice in my opinion. The XDm I shot wasn't very accurate and didn't feel right. Neither did the XDs. The shield though, is awesome. I'd have one if I had the extra cash.

Check out those holsters^^^

I've been using one every day for over a year now, works awesome and has held up great. Hasn't left much wear on the slide either.

CZ75? i have a XDM 9 and several Glocks and have experience shooting the M&P Pro line, but for me the CZ75 PCR is by far better then anything for the price and for me at least more accurate then any of the polymer pistols.

No experience on m & p. I have a xd 40. Its accurate as far as any hand gun goes. Kinda heavy and grip sucks. Easy to break down and clean.

I'm a lefty too and over the years I've managed to find a few left-hand holsters locally. My first was the N82 Tactical holster. I have the original with the elastic to hold the gun, not the newer style with the molded plastic (I don't personally like the new molded plastic ones because the clip placement and design makes them a bit thicker than I feel they should be. Thought I would like them due to easier re-holstering of the molded plastic vs. the elastic, but I checked one out at a gun show and found it thicker than I expected/liked). The N82 holster isn't the best for re-holstering because the elastic closes up when you draw the gun, but it is super comfortable. It's the most comfortable holster I have.

My current daily carry holster is a crossbreed style holster made locally. They had a booth at a local gun show and had a left hand version at the show, so I picked it up. The crossbreed holsters (and crossbreed style that many are making these days) are very comfortable. They take a bit of use to break-in and get to their optimum comfort in my experience, so give them time if you get one. The "combat" cut makes drawing easier, but they aren't as comfortable in my experience because more of the grip (and in some cases, the end of the slide) can contact your skin when moving about. Probably wouldn't be an issue with the Shield, but just something to consider (comfort vs. easier/quicker draw).
