Smith M&P or Springfield XD?

I've had the Glock 17,19, and 34. They were fine. The 34 was very accurate. Shot a friend's XD last summer, didn't care for it. Still love the 1911. Have been shooting the M&P Pro. It rocks. Hands down M&P in my book. I don't think you can go wrong with the M&P. My neighbor brought a Shield over just today and that was pretty sweet too.

For a CCW gun I would probably go with the Glock 19, I have 3 of the M&P but they are all full size guns, I like them alot I just don't know how well they would work concealed(trying to conceal them) a Glock Gen 3 won't cost that much more than a M&P.

Great choice. You will love the shield. For a IWB holster look at Kholster infinity crescent. They are reasonably priced and you can get them in left handed draw. I have four of these and are very comfortable after they break in. I highly recommend them. They are made in St. Louis.

Plastic pistol i'd say get a sig or glock. And i've owned just about every brand at one time or another. But if you really want a good gun the 1911 is hard to beat!!!! But sticking into the confines of your question, i'd say S&W.

buy the one that fits you best they are both decent. I would also say to try the glock and sig 2022 as they are good pistols also.

Dang you guys! You piqued my interest and I did a search on Armslist and found a guy a couple miles away with a good deal on a M&P Shield .40.

Already setting up a meeting. I'm excited but what the heck happened?

Well back in my post in May I said I would replace the trigger on my M&P40L CORE. I am still considering it, but I have put over 500 rounds through my CORE with the stock trigger and it is not that bad. I really like the gun and just have not decided it is time for a new trigger yet.

I have a Shield 9mm that I did the Dan Burwell trigger job on and I like it. I also had a newer M&P Pro that I bought for USPSA Production Division. It suffered from some accuracy issues something terrible. Finally sold it.

FWIW, the Wyoming Highway Patrol went from Glock to the M&P line. They are considering reversing that decision due to maintenance/repair issues.

Well I'm a HUGE Sig fan, that being said I took a glock in on trade because I knew I could sell it easy. Well took it to the range just to cement my glock hatred and ill be dang if I didn't shoot it better than my sig. And I shoot a 226 in idpa and carry a 228. But man the glock opened my eyes. Really want to get my hands on a g19. But my wife just picked up her new M&P shield and man what a pistol for the price. And with the 8 round mag I can shoot it great. The m&p is way better than an xd in my opinion. I had an xd tactical 45 and sold it. I have shot a couple M&P's and really liked them

I shoot and train with Glocks. There are many fine pistols out there; remember it's less about what tool you buy and more about how you use it. Yes you need gear, but you also need the skill set to use it correctly. Whatever you buy, spend some money with a local instructor and then practice the techniques that you learn.

When you get to the holster selection process, check out this video: Gomez on holsters

Spent time behind each one of the three...my choice for a carry gun currently is the generation 4 Glock 26. Second place would be the M&P compact. Third would be the XDc. Really don't think you can go wrong with any of them..Best thing I did was go to the range and rent all three.

Got the holster and I must say I like it even better than I thought I would. Almost unnoticeable with just a t-shirt untucked.

I got my .40 Shield on Friday and got to shoot it a little over the weekend. It shoots well and is a great price for what you get.

I think my XD is made a little better. The take down lever and slide release are machined pieces on the XD, the Shield has stamped out and formed pieces for the saftey and slide release. I prefer the safteys, chamber indicator, striker idicator and ambidextrous mag release that the XD has. I don't understand the trigger saftey on the M&P and it bothers me some that they made the trigger itself out of plastic. The recoil spring was very rough to begin with on the Shield, after some shooting and a bath in engine assembly lube it was ok. I don't know what is going on with the slide release on my Shield but I can barely operate it with one thumb, super stiff, and maybe my main complaint.

The trigger on my XD is a little mushy but not bad. The Shield trigger is very heavy and crisp. I prefer the XD.

Just my opinion. I chose a Sig P250sc over a 3" XD for a subcompact double stack. I got this Shield because I wanted a .40 single stack and got sick of waiting for Springfield to come out with the XDs 40. I wouldnt trade this Shield for a XDs 9mm but I would trade it for a XDs 40.
