sounds like we have a anti here

Gentlemen,
I knew they'd get around to us (Coyote hunters)eventually. This female (I won't waste the term "lady")is laying the groundwork for a grassroots anti-hunter thrust. They all sat around a coffee shop in say LA, SF or NYC and decided to mess with us 'ol boys. They are trying the same thing with dove hunting (With some success) and the reason is this is where most youngsters are first exposed to hunting. Dove, rabbits and predators are readily available and the latter two have longer seasons. What they don't understand is that the folks in the "red states" don't give a #$#$%^% what they think...and they best stay clear when men are afoot in the field.

..definitely an anti-hunter!!

What really amazes me, is about 99% of these anti-hunter/trapper/gun/freedom of... types are in favor of abortion!!!

It's strange that, in their twisted way of thinking, a human life is not as valuable as the life of the "Animal of the Week" that the celebrities want to "protect".

If these people love animals so much, they would understand the need to manage them to help the animals survive. It really burns me the read stuff like this, It is definately someone that lives in the concrete jungle and doesn't have a clue what a pack of yotes are capable of doing. I watched in amazement the other day as 3 yotes tried to attack a donkey in a pasture next to a barn by the rode. when I stopped the truck, they ran. I know that if I hadn't stopped that donkey would have been supper for some yotes. also now have a new place to help manage yotes. JE

she may be an "anti" but a lot of what she said is scientific fact. taking out the alpha male does let every tom, dick and harry reproduce and there will be more litters. although, her opinions on how we choose to "regulate" or "exterminate" them are pure crap.

Yep. As soon as I saw the title I scrolled to the bottom and saw "Vegetarian". That's usually a pretty good indicator. But, then actually reading it, there are many PETA-isms throughout the article.

.

Right here in michigan. They cancelled our season to be revoted on. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angry-smiley-055.gif

How are donkeys, sheep dogs, and llamas used to protect livestock? I suppose I could see a sheep dog may protect livestock to a certain degree, but a llama? What does a llama do spit at the yotes?

Michigan,
I think they are having Dove hunt problems in Ohio or Illinois also (to name a few). Even Arizona had a massive anti-hunter revolt put down w/i the last few years! Don't give them an inch. As for coyotes, as one poster noted the animals need to be culled/managed for their own good. The funny thing is she(the writer) so much as says so in that her article. Her point is now the coyote is doing better than ever DESPITE our hunting...but, a closer look reveals it's doing better BECAUSE of our hunting, just like the miraculous White-Tail Deer herd recovery this last century in the East. Hunter's made that happen. I passed on a smaller dog just the other day, didn't think he was worth the fuss. Mission Accomplished! The coyote is all over the U.S. for us to respect, hunt and shoot at. Enjoy the experience. Eternal Vigilance.

It never ceases to amaze me at the ways one lopsided Study continues to show up. And the ways it gets twisted.

The only thing that causes larger litters on average is the age structure of the group of coyotes studied. If younger females survive and raise a litter, average litter sizes are smaller. Where all young females are taken out of the equation , then litter averages are larger. In the study used, done in Yellowstone National Park, younger females rarely survived to be counted because of the wolf population.Almost all litters became wolf food before reaching maturity. The Jackass that did this study assumed wrongly, that numbers where diectly related to predation there fore creating the larger litters. Where there are no predators other than man , litter size averages are smaller than in Yellowstone. Female age is the reason for litter size!

Her statistics on child death are also false. More than 85 children have been killed by coyotes since 1976. More than 150 seperate attacks in all those years as well.

If people were actually educated on what the animal rights movement has cost the economy of this country in food losses alone they would tell these folks to take a hike into the sea.And I am not talking meat products here. All manner of vegatables are eaten by all manner of wildlife. Jimmie

llamas do this weird dance when they see a predator. The dance confuses the coyote and it will leave the area. I don't know why it works but it does. Standard size and large donkeys don't like any canines so they will chase any dog or coyote they see. I have a couple of horses that are the same way. No coyotes in their pasture! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif As for guard dogs, they work well but are noisy. They bark at any intruders. They don't stop barking either until the intruder leaves. All of these methods work but shepards also have to be vigilant! And a good shot! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Here's the part I like..

When left alone, the coyote's population is naturally regulated. When hunted and killed, this natural process is disrupted. Litter sizes often increase in response, and members of a pack may be dispersed resulting in more reproducing coyotes.

Lets hunt and kill more coyotes to promote a target rich environment.

Well, I don't realy care much at all for what she has to say. Last spring, while on duty here at the fire station, I watched a large coyote stalk his way through the corn towards my oldest and youngest sons. My youngest son had fallen and was crying as most 2 yearolds do, the coyote was stalking the children, later that night a well placed arrow ended that adventure!
Just a few monthes ago I shot gunned a coyote in my front yard, my wife and I had a little girl this past October, my wife was changing the diaper on the living room floor, the child was crying, and a coyote stuck his head up to the screen of the open window, what do you all think she would have done, feed the yote cat food? Not me, I KILLED IT! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Watch those Lamas and donkeys become cayote food. Personally I don't know a single farmer or rancher that wants to live with cayotes. They loose too many farm animals. She is right about cayotes and wolves crossing, coywolves are alive and well in the land between the lakes area of Tennessee and Kentucky, where the released Red Wolves are crossing with Cayotes. One thing good I have to say about the cayote, when I lived in Washington DC we were overrun with ferel housecats. One morning on my way to work I saw a cayote catch and kill a housecat along the Potomic. In the following year I saw more and more cayotes, and a noticiable decrease in ferel housecats. Yea, for the cayote. Cayotes are good animals, and they make good targets too. If they were somehow wipped out, we would really miss the challenge of calling them. Yes the faster we shoot them the faster they reproduce, sounds good to me. Just like foxes, the more we trap the faster they reproduce.
