Any luck as of late, been pretty slow. I have called a couple in but keep getting busted so just more educated Coyotes, hate that. Anybody else having any luck recently?
I have an uncalled, with a high population of coyotes area to call, finally decided to go call it and there was a late cow elk hunt that just ended there were 2 big gut piles that they had worked over, even a lion got involved with it! Calling was bad because they all had full bellies, I guess. I went in when it was just about daylight, I figured they were probably on the pile when I walked in.
I also tried a new area that I recently acquired permission to hunt. Went in and setup called for half an hour, with turkey distress (seen turkey tracks on the way in)and the rabbit and some howls. Nothing, I then decided to wait and call after dark, while I was up higher overlooking the same area about 20 min's later, just for fun I lightly blew a rabbit squall with little or no effort to make a decent sound. I also blew it very soft. Well I got an answer right away, a coyote howled about 500 yards of in the distance. I had left the gun in my truck and had the camera to get some pictures of the deer around there and so I just waited for a bit hit the call again in the same manner and he barked closer, but I never seen him or heard from him again. I figured he was around 2 to 3 hundred yards away still. Just can not get it to work out latley!
