Spotting Coyotes with Big Eyes

Went out 2 days ago to try a different method of hunting coyotes. Some of the country i hunt has huge basins with tall buttes. What i'm starting to do now is get up on top of these buttes with a pair of Big Eyes-- twin spotting scopes mounted in a precision bracket that allows use of higher-power optics with extremely wide FOV's. My setup is 2 Bushnell Spacemaster II's with 22X WA oculars/big Leupold tripod, and it is just fantastic for it's purpose. I bet with this system even with mild mirage i could see dogs at close to 2 miles away. It's the spot and stalk hunters dream come true for comfortable long-term long-distance scanning.

Went out yesterday with the Big Eyes, and spotted 2 coyotes in two different directions over a mile away-- one was at the end of the day, just as i was about to call it quits. He was loping along headed my way, and i just layed and waited for him. 10 minutes later he was 235 yds. away, and i shot him. The other was on the edge of a pr. dog town, middle of the day, and i watched him for awhile when he laid down under a cactus. I put a stalk on him, and it didn't come together, BUT had it not been for the Big Eyes i doubt i would've seen either of them. They're a pain to haul around tho.

Wish I was there to help carry and shoot too, Steve.
I'm trying to get a Striker in 22-250 to shoot but haven't found the right bullet/powder yet. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif I sure am happy with the 7-08 /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

3 44's-- the system is put together by a guy back in PA, who's put together something like 700 of them for shooters.

It's an aluminum bracket that's been precisely machined to house 2 Bushnell Spacemaster II's. If u look closely at the photo u can see that the objective's r enclosed by aluminum rings that have 4 set screws that allow u to adjust for collimation, as well as a larger set screw that attaches right at the tripod mount on each that needs to be loosened slightly to allow up and down movement while collimating. It's a terrific system that allows me to glass areas of large basins i couldn't see into before-- but unfortunately forces me to carry a backpack around certain areas to make them portable-- which they really aren't. For pr. dog shooting from fixed locations they're unbeatable. Cost is $800. If interested let me know-- i'll give u the contact info on the guy that makes them.

Mike-- thks. for the pic. i'll figuire it out eventually. Mitch just purchased a Striker 22-250 too. i'm going out today to try and get it to shoot-- we'll see.

Whoa ......... just scared myself!!!

Got a wild hair and typed "big eyes" in Google.

For an out of pocket book experience try it!

sscoyote,

Hey Steve! This is Mike! Thanks again for being my Antelope guide! We got Rob a coyote the day after Thanksgiving with a single shot! I still don't know how he got that one down without expending a whole box of ammo... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Ehhh Mike-- how's things? Hows about that hunt??-- on the wrong land, and the rancher still gave us permission to hunt another couple ranches. Hard to keep track of all the land some of these big ranchers have. He saw us crawling, and liked the effort we put into it, i guess.
