Taurus

I've had two of their revolvers, both had to go back to taurus, first one had light primer strike's, second one I bought 3 years ago would bind the cylinder after 4-5 round's. As soon as you cleaned it worked great until you shot 4-5 shell's then it would bind again.Three month from the time I shipped it to the time I got it back.Never had any problem's with colt, S&W or ruger.

The old ones were trash. The new ones are still junk. I can't believe anyone would purchase them over a smith and wesson, dan wesson, ruger or any other american made gun. I don't care who wants to run their mouth, in my opinion they aren't half the quality of a smith. It is not too hard to build a gun cheaper when you have sweat shop labor for a few bucks a day. Our American companies, our neighbors and allies, make a quality product for not much more money and some people choose a south american clone??? I know all about the arguement about how they give to the NRA and how competition makes for a better product. Whatever you have to do to justify it. Taurus owners probably don't pay their NRA dues, drive foreign cars, and voted Obama! It's all the same to me.

If someone wants to buy a taurus, then by all means please do. I have been selling firearms for about 20 years, and more taurus's go back for repair than just about any other. Some more than once.
Still, if all I can afford is a taurus, it beats a slingshot. Better still, save up for a better quality and more dependable firearm.

...yeah, and probably eat French fries, Chinese egg rolls and Italian salad dressing too.

Yeah, because they are called french, chinese, or italian they have to be made in those countries..What is your point?? You think eating a french fry is the same as buying a foriegn made gun??

wow just wow. you do relize that dan wesson is now owned by CZ right? way to generalize people on what kinda of gun they buy. also taurus makes stuff that other don't make

Let's see...Taurus made a certain % of semi-autos for our military. Who was the actual contract awarded to? So why the trash talk. The dies are still in use today.

WOW, you impress me with your wisdom, maybe you should research and come back after you research S&W shot show.....

I love S&W guns the feel and looks and everything about them. I have owned several 29s and many others. What really turned my stomach with smith is i bought a model 329PD. My dad bought the same one within a week. we had problems with both guns. He sent his in i took mone back and got another new one. none of them would shoot 44specials. When dad got his back it looked like it was left in a ditch for a month then pulled behind a truck a few miles. and function like it as well. It was 10 times worse when he got it back then when it went in. Smith was a real A-hole from the start and never did fix it. There CS was the worse i have ever seen and delt with in the firearms industry. There QC has went way down there pride fell with it as well. I still own a few smiths and all ways will. They are the classic revolver company in my eyes. I just hope they change there CS and QC or they wont be around putting out guns like the 329pds. I will stick with the tride and true older 29s for now.

Sorry about the rambling all companys throw out a lemon. The thing that makes it or breaks it is one the number of bad guns relased. and two how the company handles the problem that got threw all the quailty check stations that should of been caught. From the taurus i have owned and my brother has owned they seem to be a well built gun now. Im sure there are ones with problems but they sell a helll of a lot of them because of prices. I would go out on a limb and say there is probally 4 or 5 taurus sold to 1 smith.

I've seen good ones and bad ones over the years, but I could say that about most brands. When you find a good one, you hang on to it. The only one I have left is the Raging Bull shown in my signature. The only reason I have it is that it shoots as good, or better, than any Smith or Ruger 44 Mag I have ever owned. It is the exception and not the rule, as Taurus revolvers go, in my experience. The lockup is as tight as any Smith, and the trigger almost as good as a Smith. The Raging Bull is a very robust revolver and your not likely to get better for the price. No, it's not as nice as a Smith, but it can take more abuse.

I have had a few Colt Diamondbacks and 2 Pythons that were clearly better on average than either. I did have one Smith K-22 Masterpiece that was THE best of them all.

I don't have much experience with the Taurus Autos so I'm no help in that department. I doubt that I would give up my Sig P226 for any 2 of them.

The state of SD got a bunch of .22 rimfire Taurus a few years ago for some of the fish and game officers. Three of
them I looked at were sent back with problems. I heard that they were replaced with new ones that have worked great since.

Ozzy,
What semi-auto has Taurus ever made for the American military?

Like I said, however you want to justify it. They are not as good of a product as a smith and wesson and they are foreign. So why would you want to buy one?? I know Dan Wessons are now owned by CZ, and I won't buy one of those either. I also agree with whoever said Taurus makes things other companies won't or don't. If a foreign company is making something you want and is not available in american made gun, I understand buying it. But I can't understand anyone choosing a taurus over a similar smith or ruger. I don't think this was trash talk. They asked for opinions and they got it. I don't try to insult other posters when they post an opinion I don't agree with. Maybe I struck a nerve? I truly feel you should buy American anytime you can. Sorry if you don't agree.

I wonder how many people that are against quality made foreign guns have a house full of pacific rim products. Are any of you complaining about foreign made stuff as you type on your Toshiba computer? Are you going to watch the news later on your Panasonic television? Check the time on your Casio watch? Heat you up a snack in your Gold Star microwave? And don't say that you had to buy those things because there aint no more American made stuff. Uh uh not going to work. You buy them because you want them. And you want them bad enough to not care where they are made. There are a lot of things that I dont like that are foreign made- our president is a good example- but like it or not, buy them or not, they are here to stay. I am going to keep shooting my Taurus firearms as well as my Walthers and my Benellis and whatever else that I have in my safe. They are mine, I bought them with American dollars that I made working for an American owned company. And if you or anyone else has a problem with that, then that is your problem- not mine. Life is too short to worry about little things. But- if you disagree that is fine too. Call me on my Nokia phone and we will talk more about it.

And you should never forget that the biggest owners of foreign companies are Americans.
Americans are the major owners of many if not most foreign companies.
If the profits come back to America it is not totally buying foreign.

Your pension plan or 401K is probably heavily dependent on foreign companies doing well.

Thank you all for your comments. I enjoy a little fire once in a while. By the way I did not offer this as a "true american test." I have always thought that you vote with your dollar. If you look at products as candidates, then by purchasing them, you vote for who you think is best. Like everyone my house is filled with foreign made objects. I hate that. I also know it is viewed as narrow minded and old school and it is not going to change, but I also don't like foreign dependency. Foreign countries (China I fear most) have invested heavily in our country. It scares me. Look at todays events. Greece's problems are causing more problems for us. Why is one of the most powerful countries in the world's economy dependent on some little european one's?? It is kind of like the gun rights movement. One person is not going to change anything, but if we all started "voting" a little different with our money, maybe something would change. I don't spend lots of time going out of my way to buy American, but if I am looking at several products, I nearly always buy the American made one. By the way I don't like Taurus because I think their quality is poor. You can argue all day, but that is my opinion after owning (yes, I know I am a hypocrite) several. They did not hold together, their tolerances seemed loose, trigger pulls were terrible, I have had better luck with smith and wesson's customer service, and their resale value is signficantly less when you want to trade, or recoup part of your investment. I have a hard time seeing any taurus products increasing in value the way some other brands have and will. As a small businessman struggling in today's economy, I guess i sympathize with our american companies. They make a good product and are trying to compete against an inferior product made with much cheaper inputs (mostly labor I would guess). The original poster asked about them. I don't like (borderline hate) them for a whole lot of reasons.

And I did ask about them and got the American run down.
Now you've actually said why you dislike them, which is what I was asking.

Now you asked why:
S&W is asking 2500.00 for a this same deal as to the $550 for this one, --if you would like to help me fund that I would go that direction.
ruger don't make anything of the sort
Colt only has them in revolvers-which I really was wanting an auto.

However, I just may go with 405's slingshot idea..

I'd get it and try it out. You can allways sell it.
Had a few guns over the years that I thought were the one. Could not shoot them well,so down the road they went.

After reading this whole thread I might have to sell a few more .... The foreign ones.
Anyone need a Browning O/U ,Benelli SBE2, Springfield XD...I'm sure I got some more crap laying around !
