Whats the best of the 3 ? I have been a Remington man most of my life. I have not decided on caliber. Deer/varmit will be main use. 243 , 25-06 , or 270 maybe.

I switched from Remington to Sako and have enjoyed every shot. Lots to be happy about.
I will never own another Weatherby. Tried that game one to many times. Some of them are attractive to look at.
Haven't owned an Icon but thought about a couple times. For a first run at Sako they did alright. I think the A7 held it's ground.
The .243 is definitely a very popular dual purpose caliber.

I own 2 of the 3. A Sako A7 in 270 and a TC Icon in 243. The Sako is a lighter gun and is accurate. But the Icon is even more accurate but is quite a bit heavier.

If your looking to save a few bucks.I have a TC Venture in 270 that is every bit as accurate as my Sako. I bought it for around 400. TC currently has some rebates going on. I believe 50 dollars on a Venture and 150 on an Icon.

I really like the 243 but my next gun will be a 25-06. I guess the caliber will depend on what you want to shoot with it.

I have the tools and know how to do everything short rebarreling and chambering a rifle. I would like to improve my chances of getting an out of the box rifles that is a great shooter without having to put much time and work into to make shoot to my satisfaction. Remingtons are a good massed produced rifle , I am looking for something better. Under 1moa for 3 shots is my standards for accuracy with sporter barrels , and 5 shot under 1moa for varmit rifles.

Dual purpose coyote/deer cal? 25-06 wins that, hands down, no questions asked. 85g NBT at 3600fps for yotes, 100g NBT at 3400fps for a dual purpose load, or 115g NBT at 3200fps for deer, which also work very well for coyotes. 243s to light for big deer at extended ranges, and the 270 is to big and kicks to much for a coyote rifle.

Of the 3 manufacturers you list, I would put my money on sako to outshoot them all. They all give guaruntees I notice, 1 MOA for the sako/TC, 1.5 MOA for the WBY, but really, who needs a guaruntee, dont mean jack squat to me personally. Dont mean joe blows gonna shoot 1 MOA just because the lab did it in an underground range off a bench. Funny I've never bought a rifle with a "accuracy gauruntee" and I've still been able to kill animals out to 900 yards and kill inatimate objects such as rocks and steel out to 1200 with as good consistency as a custom barreled rifle, these have all been with rem 700s and win 70s with factory sporter barrels mind you, except for one 25-06 that was a light varmint shilen barreled 700 and my sendero contour/HART barreled 338 EDGE.

My dad bought the camo synthetic stock/stainless Icon in 300 WM last year. Topped it with a vx2, 6-18 Target scope, added a V-port brake, stoked her with 75.5g RL22 and 180g NBTs and the first load tried shot 1/2 MOA at 100 yards. Repeated outings have put this load at 3/8"-5/8" everytime at 100 yards off the bench, not to shabby...

Guys, thanks for the replies. I love the real world first hand experiance you guys have. Info you can't get from a gunshop salesman or book.

kotekiller25, I like your matter of fact style. I too have not been impressed with an accuracy gauruntee. Have yet see a pistole or rifle shoot as good as shown by the target packed in the box. You have me sold on the 25-06. I will give the 25-06 a 2nd chance. Had a Rem.VS 25-06 35 years ago that did not shoot worth a dang. That soured me on the 25-06. I was young back then and did not know any better. I's the rifle and not the caliber that shoots.

I'll have to drive to Houston TX and look and handle the rifles. Fit , finish , and feel will determind the one I will pick. If that don't work, I'll just have one of my Remingtons rebarreled.

Don't know much about sako but my little tc venture shoots very well, it's basically a stripped down icon, so I would probably go with the t/c.

I'd rather a Vanguard in 243. Have never been able to like anything T/C has ever made. Although, I'd buy a T/C muzzleloader over a POS CVA, and the like, while still preferring Knight and Savage over the T/C..........

Lol Grant!!! Yea if you need parts they tend not to get here in a timely fashion, and no haven't gotten it yet. If the extractor isnt here by Tuesday I'm calling again

In terms of customer service, Sako is no better, especially now that Berretta has taken over. Not to mention parts for Sakos and Tikkas are WAY over priced......

25-06 is a super cartridge for coyotes and deer. I started using it when I was 14 I think. I've had 4 of them over the years and put far more thousands of rounds downrange in those 2506s then probly all my others combined. It was my 1 rifle for everything back in the day except for elk, which I've always used a 7 or 300 mag of some sort on. Its what got me started into LR shooting, so I kinda have/had a soft spot for the 25-06. The 4 25s I've owned in order have been, a Ruger M77 MkII stainless/synthetic w/brake, winchester model 70 classic sporter, rem 700 BDL wood/blued, rem 700 ADL w/24" light varmint shilen barrel on it. All 4 were extremely accurate for being factory sporter barreled rifles, except the shilen barreled 700. All would shoot most any bullet/powder combo less then 1" at 100 yards from a bench, and the pet loads did 1/2 MOA from every rifle with severl different bullets. One of the lease picky cartridges I seem to load for in my experience. Matter of fact, my old win 70 classic sporter in 25-06 still holds my smallest 3 shot group at 100 yards to date, it measures a whopping .043", shot with 117g SBTs over H4831...My triple deuce has never even shot a group in the .0s, few in the .1s, and lots in the .2s, but thats been my only .0s group in my short life of 25 years, lol.

Anyways, I've tried 90% of the bullets out there and my favorite are the NBT's. There cheap, accurate, have fairly high BCs for hunting bullets, and they just plain work and kill stuff... Killed lots of coyotes and enough deer and few black bear with the NBTs out to a fair poke to know it means serious business. I never had any, coyote, antelope, deer, bear, or elk get away from the 2506, from 50 out to 600 yards, including 3 black bears with the closest being 375 yards. My sister even used it to take her cow elk at 300 yards with a 100g NP that I handloaded for her years ago.

For a factory round, its tough to beat a 2506 for a great longer range dual purpose yote/antelope/deer round out to at least 600 yards with the 115g NBT, I'd take it another 100 yards out to 700 if I had to, it would do her, coyotes 1K, far as you can hit em... Only thing that is better IMO, would be a 6.5mm of some flavor, say a 6.5-06, only becuase of the super BCs that they provide over .257"s Those 140s are tough to beat for a LR deer round, and the 95g vmax or 100g HPs would suffice for coyotes, or you could go the 120g NBT route and have the dual purpose bullet going for ya both on deer and yotes.

It just fits for a dual purpose cartridge for longer ranges. 243 is the better coyote round strictly for coyotes, throw deer in there, 25-06 gets the nod, now the 270 is a great deer round as well, I was gonna get one instead of the 25-06 when I was deciding what I wanted when i was 14. But it just seemed it was to heavy and big, kicked to much for steady use on coyotes. I went and bought the 25-06 and never looked back for about 6-7 years. Then I got a 7 RM for LR deer and bought a 243 for use on coyotes. Dont own a 2506 anymore, but I still love em to death and will always recomend them to someone looking for a dual purpose rifle/caliber. If your not shooting deer past 300-400 yards, then the 243 will work in most cases as well, I just like that little extra MV and bullet weight, with a little more thump.

Yea it is 2much. They are located in new Hampshire it shouldn't take to get here. They said it takes at least ten days, thAt was a month ago, I called them last week and they sent it again. I told them I would pay for it to help speed it up but because it's still under warranty they won't let me pay. I don't know. We shall see
