Tennessee Hunting

Hey guys,

I've been doing some thinking (scary, aint it?).

There seems to be several folks on here from tennessee and surrounding states that are trying to learn this sport or who just love to get out and hunt ol' wiley coyote, so I have an idea.

I know a few folks around here who are on big deer hunting clubs that they lease from Bowater. These leases are from 500 acres or so on up to a few thousand acres. I was thinking about asking them if I could bring a few hunters on their leases to thin out the coyote population. I would need to know how many would be interested in this kind of hunt?
Keep in mind that to do this that I would have to get the o.k. from every member of the lease. That won't be easy, but I will try. Some of these leases just have two or three guys leasing them, while others have 25 to 30 on them. The ones with high numbers will probably be almost impossible to get everyone to agree to it, but I'll try anyway.
These men will be going on my honor so all that I ask is that we follow any rules that they ask of us and to leave the place better than we found it. I WILL NOT pay any of them to hunt their leases and some may want that.
These hunts will be a one time thing unless they give permission to hunt another time. I just want to make that clear so nobody gets the misconception that they can hunt there anytime.

I thought this could be a good way for some of us to meet each other and to have some fun shooting some coyotes (can't guarantee the coyotes though

). A few people have expressed their desire to hunt with coyotehunter1 and me, but the places we hunt are barely big enough for two hunters, much less more than that and the ones that are fairly big the landowners don't want more than two of us on their property hunting. Safety can become a big concern in larger groups on small areas.

Well this is my idea. Any takers? I haven't even discussed this with coyotehunter1 yet, so I don't know if he would be interested or not. Who knows we might learn a thing or two from each other and have a great time. I hope that some of the more experienced coyote hunters will be interested as well as the new guys.

I know of one 1500 acre area that I'm pretty sure I can get on for a one time hunt that borders a river and has state owned property on the other side. Seems like a good place to hunt coyotes, but it is fairly remote. I'll have to find out for sure if we can hunt it.

The proverbial ball is now in your court.

Oops! Chet you got mail. You responded to this before I could get you e-mailed.
I'll start doing the leg work tomorrow.
Now remember gents, bobcat season will be over saturday and it's illegal to kill a fox using an electronic caller which some of us will no doubt have with us. This means to stay within the law we can only hunt coyotes, unless we want to wait until next year which I doubt few of us do.

Anyone else up for it?

James D. Holbrook

I would be interested, Let me know, Oh what happened to you guys the other weekend, I e-mailed bopeye, To see if you guys were hunting, and if so where to meet up with you guys at.

The powers that be wouldn't allow things to work out for us. Didn't get to hunt that weekend.
This little hunt if we can get it going should be one fun little shin dig.

BTW, it's 4:00 am on the 13th of Feb. right now. That means I turned 33 years old today, so it's "be nice to the old man day" today.

Any more want to come?

What about some of you Kentucky or Georgia or Carolina boys?

Btw how much would a non res licens cost me ? If you would send me a e-mail about this i love to hear from you concerning this tj5ranch5@aol.com

I'll check on the out of state license for you and get back with you.

Hope you can make it. Would like to have you join us. My hope is we can all learn some things from one another, have a good and safe time and maybe even kill a few coyotes in the process.

Just teasing ya about the yankee thing.

What a great idea Bopeye. I'd love to be included.
Now get this. I just joined a hunt club, been waiting two years, that has over 5,000 acres in it. I asked my friend , who has been a member for a few years, if they had any coyotes and were they a problem. He said,"loaded with them, yes they are a problem. If ya wanna hunt em, I'll show you where they seem to be concentrated".

Sooooooooooo, guess what I'm going to suggest?
You got it. Now this might be something that will take some time, like you said Bopeye, gotta convince everyone of the idea and gain their confidence. This hunting club is deer hunters only, it's next to Tennessee River, hills and hollers, some cut over, pipelines, power lines, trails everywhere. MASIVE area, very few people around. What a great idea you had. Anyway, I am going to make the suggestion like you have and see what gives. Who knows, maybe there could be a couple of sites like this where we could all get together and learn someting from you experienced guys.
Whatcha think?????????

Can a Bama boy come up there an play? Also get this I'm in 3300 acre club in Bellamy,Al(about 30 miles east of Meridain,Ms. Hwy 20/59).Ya'll can come hunt it.Only rules no drinking,no cussing in the camp house.Oh,and no yote hunting during Turkey season, sorry guys, the bird guys get frieked about noise.

Tater, thank you for linking the TWRA site.

Hunter guys and gals,
Taters link will lead you to the TWRA home page, below is a sample of what can be found listed there pertaining to our small game laws (including coyote) in Tennessee. This is not a complete list, but it is what we will need to follow during non deer hunting seasons. Please see the site for all game law details. At the bottom is a list of non resident license fees for anyone interested.
