The best low light scope

Bushnell Elite. Didn't they have the highest claimed percentage of light transmission than any other scope?

Used Zeiss conquest or Minox Z5 is you can find one. I had a Minox Z5 2-10 that was brighter than a VX3 I had. Cost me less money as well.

Glass is extremely subjective IMO. Either way there's no way I'd consider anything vortex other than a razor gen II - unless you plan on destroying it.

I have one Leupold and 4 Nikons. For under your $500 mark you can go wrong.

I've certainly been happy with the low light performance of the Zeiss Conquest, now my Leupolds look dark all the time.
I see them going for $600+ new and lower in the classifieds.

Never had anything but Leupold,but always been happy with my old Vari-X III 3.5 X 10 40 MM Scopes

Another vote for Zeiss, Leupold, etc. Any reputable manufacturer with one of their scopes at your price point should be a very nice scope. Certainly a step up from $150-$200 dollars

I have a Tangent Theta coming and my buddy just got a Z8i. They say to spend an equal amount on the glass as you did the rifle!
