The best low light scope

Used Zeiss conquest or Minox Z5 is you can find one. I had a Minox Z5 2-10 that was brighter than a VX3 I had. Cost me less money as well.

Glass is extremely subjective IMO. Either way there's no way I'd consider anything vortex other than a razor gen II - unless you plan on destroying it.

I have one Leupold and 4 Nikons. For under your $500 mark you can go wrong.

I've certainly been happy with the low light performance of the Zeiss Conquest, now my Leupolds look dark all the time.
I see them going for $600+ new and lower in the classifieds.
 
Another vote for Zeiss, Leupold, etc. Any reputable manufacturer with one of their scopes at your price point should be a very nice scope. Certainly a step up from $150-$200 dollars
