The king period

That's why I have to agree with BCB...The 22 CB cap is the most I can comfortably handle recoil wise.

.375 H&H is the King...

Not flashy... not abbusive... but universally loved and respected. Been there... done that... on every critter known to man. Stoked with a 300-350 solid it will handle the biggest of the beasties without feeling undergunned. Loaded with the 260 Accubond it shoots as flat as an '06 running 165s... and does it with only 75 grains of powder.

One gun... one planet... .375 Holland and Holland... carry on.

The term (king) means so many things to so many different
people. How could one label, one cartrige, it?
.22 lr many could argue for this one, they'd be right
.270 same thing or any of these
30/30 WCF a living ledgend
.308 honk honk
30-06 nuff said
45-70...what?
I got more 12ga shotguns in my house than any other cal.
followed by .22lr then 20.ga does this mean anything????
I'd like to have one in all cal. made.(I can dream can't I?)
I think that should be a national census question. And If
your offended by the question they could ship you off to
Sibera to feed the starving Polar Bears.....

Dan

More folks voted for Obama too... that don't necessarily make it the best choice... it's amazing what an uniformed public is capable of.

mo-tard remarks....

Dan:

I remember just a couple of years ago when a former poster here referred to a certain person's C. S. approach for a post he made and the stance he took.

Surely you remember the infamous "Cheap Binoculars are Best" thread, or whatever you actually called that thread...?

And since quarterbored mentioned Obama, he's the last person I remember using the "R" word until now. He's in good company...

quarterbored:

If we have to declare a king here too, I'm with you 100% on the 375 H&H as the all around choice for anything that walks the earth......

Good choice....

ahhhh... 'stick would be proud. Laffin'...

I only own one 280 and one 30-06, the 30-06 collects dust. Though lately the 280 sits a lot too. I ran it quite a bit when I was younger but have been gradually going to smaller chamberings and running better bullets. Less recoil, cheaper to run, and I shoot them more and more often. Win/Win/Win.

Guys can get their heads wrapped all up in cartridge arguments, but really it's just ballistic gack for us to banter back and forth. A good bullet in good place will kill stuff.....that's all it takes whether it's a 223 or 7mm Mashburn super Mag. You already know this though......

No mistaken identity , Dan....

Let's don't crawfish, now.... Maybe you were drunk. I don't know about the drunk piece of the puzzle, but it was definitely you....

The other poster chooses not to post here any longer, but I'm sure he still remembers...

BCB, you'll have to pull up what you're talking about and post the link...

I don't get drunk anymore... so that part was a joke.

But seriously, I don't remember what you're speaking of...

Here we go 270 is one of the best, but made from '06. 270 does not have the bullet weight range or the types of bullet choices that 06 does.

22lr very legitimate, but will you take that hunting for deer or use it in combat. Legally hunting for deer.

375 h&h one of the best. Most all magnum calibers come from the holland and holland family. Truly in a league of its own. How many rounds can be fired consecutively before crying mama. The '06 burns alot less powder than the 375.

7x57 is a great caliber. Once again it does not have the range of bullet weights that '06 does.

It does not have the highest velocity, the biggest bullets, the hardest hitting, but it is in a class by itself.

The king period....

I think several of us might have been looking beyond just "da UP of Michigan" when we made our choices.

However, in your sorting out of the choices, it seems that, much like in the 220 Swift thread, someone (you) wanted someone else (us) to maybe pat you on the back for owning a 30-06.

Granted, it will be a great choice for most of North America - including of course the UP- but it you look beyond there it might be lacking.

For example, if you show up in Johannesburg, SA with just a 30-06, you will find your hunting itinerary extremely limited and perhaps non-existent. If you take a 375 H&H, you will have a minimum caliber in some areas that is legal and suitable for a lot of African species.

Yet the same 375 H&H can be loaded down with 200-225 grain bullets and be very suitable also for use in hunting game in your UP. And the recoil will be so manageable that even your momma won't cry when she shoots it...

Just some thoughts...

I wasn't the one to use the "R" word - albeit abbreviated and combined with another word...

I hope you get over your amnesia, too..

Guys, don't let ole' Bayou Boy get you down, best way to describe this legendary keyboard cowboy is...

He's a font
of misplaced rage.

Name your cliche. Mother held
him too much, or not enough.

Last picked at kick ball,
late-night sneaky uncle. Whatever.

Now he's so angry, moments of
levity actually cause him pain.

Gives him headaches.

Happiness, for
that gentleman, hurts.

BCB, you're condescending tone has really soured some good people that won't post on this board anymore.

Pretty sad.
