Thermal Video of last few days of our night hunting season

Short thermal video of me and my buddy on our last few kills of the last few days of our night hunting season. We had a pretty good season overall...it was hard getting as much footage of my buddy's kills, but got some anyway.

Good video, and good shooting! I see you are using the FI51-300 reticle. It is different for me looking at 2x base mag though, I am used to the 3.5x of the XQ50. I had to watch your PIP to get more of the feel I am used to seeing out of mine.

Ya, I used to just run my main screen at anywhere from 3x to 4x but we started to get multiples coming in and I was also trying to see what was going on when my buddy was "up to bat" and still see the other coyotes. I've experimented with several of the reticles and seem to like this one the best...I do like the small dot or x reticle...it gives a better video view rather than full size reticles "cluttering" up the view. I am trying to get a feel for using this reticle for ranging but don't seem to get the coyote to stop long enough to get a reference and then apply it. I think the best way is still the Kirsch method of watching the image turn to somewhat of a "transparent" image and knowing then that it is definitely in killing range. Will keep playing with it.

No Ernest, he actually came all the way from the woodline you see way off in the background...those are Whitetail deer and they just happened to be in line with his path to the caller...if you look close you can also see the caller between myself and the coyote...the caller is about 60 steps from me and the coyote was shot at 200 steps.

Thanks Kirsch...you know in the beginning when I had my first Thermal(Trail XQ38) I wasn't real interested in the video portion of the scope. Then when they had the sound upgrade to the Trail and the RAV upgrade, I started to get a kick out of the video stuff. The video showed all to often that my misses were operator error and not the scope...I would just get so excited and slap the heck out of the trigger...the video would show the error in my ways.
It has been fun learning how to make the videos...I have to give DoubleUp credit for getting me to take the time to figure it out...he just flat told me I could learn how to do it if I really tried. It is nice to watch them every now and then.

G.A., good job all around. As to video, once I began to do it, I can’t seem to hunt anymore without it. I enjoyed yours. Stay after it.

Not to venture to far off from your great video, but I don't know why Pulsar went away from the RAV (Recoil Activated Video) feature. I loved it in the previous models.

It wouldn't always activate with a suppressed .223, but it was way better than not having the option at all.

Sometimes they just come in so quick it's not easy to manually hit record.

P.S. Cool video

Indyote, I agree completely...when the RAV function was put in a firmware upgrade to my older Trail XQ38, it was the greatest thing going...I never had it fail me once. I did have a couple of videos that went squirrely on me but that had nothing to do with the RAV. I have hit Pulsar up several times to put it on the Thermion, but they keep saying no. I had several coyotes come in so quick or just appear that I never had a chance to hit the record button...but, it is what it is. Thanks

Thanks 6mm06, I see that you have been getting some good videos yourself...the video thing is like a hobby built into hunting.

Good or bad, one thing that I really like about the really high compression of the Bering Optics video is I turn it on when I start a stand, and turn it off when done. No need for RAV because it is always recording while hunting. When the night is done, copy them all to the computer and delete the ones with no action, and trim up the ones where coyotes showed up. A person could record about 8 full nights of hunting. I am not trying to turn this into a Bering thread from a Pulsar one, but just worth mentioning. I didn't like the high compression at first, but I will admit it is nice not having to worry about pressing record during a stand.

As for RAV, I did not find it reliable, personally. However, as others have mentioned, I could have it on as a backup and then still try to start recording manually.

Video recording coyote kills gets addicting. It is a lot of work, but as 6mm says, you can't seem to hunt without it once you start.

GA, congratulations on your shooting success, video success, and editing. I knew you could do it, plus now you see how valuable it is to be able see what actually happened rather than what you thought happened. Good Stuff there! Looking forward to next year for your videos. Thanks!

I get really disappointed when I don't get it on video. I made a couple of great running shots in the past month and didn't get either one recorded. Now that is frustrating to me.

Thanks guys...I wish I was able to get more of my buddy's kills on video. There were several other stands that I either didn't have time to hit the record button or just plain forgot...they would have been great to have on video. My buddy is probably one of the best on runners...if money is put on the line, I would put my money on him every time. I do alright but he can really hit the runners and at the age of 76 he doesn't show signs of slowing down either. He has been after coyotes for 57 years and is closing in on 1400 total...and he started hunting them at a time when there weren't very many in our area. Good friend and if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't kill near the coyotes that I do.
Here are a couple of videos I put together when I had my Trail XQ38...quality isn't the best, but it was a learning curve with that scope and it served me well. Was mostly shooting a 20 Practical in an AR15...double tapped a few of them just to be sure they stayed down.
