I understand that most lens glass comes from Japan and some from Austria (Schott Glass). Scope makers order the quality they want.
Nikon, Zeiss and Swarovoski are supposed to grind their own lenses. None of them make glass.
Just this morning, my wife told me I was wrong, so don't take the above as 100% accurate.
Schott Glass is a German company, not Austrian. Swarovski uses Schott glass.
Zeiss also uses Schott glass. Which only makes sense, considering Schott and Zeiss are one and the same....
