USA Glass?

Feeling the need to buy American. I know it's not as simple as all that.

Which scopes are built in the USA? Which of those are made with parts made in the USA?

Leupold?
Nightforce?
Sheperd?
Burris?
Redfield?
Weaver?

Others?

You can buy American assembled scopes, but most glass is from Japan, they make the best and apparently no one in the US feels compeled to compete.

Maybe the question should be:

Who has American workers on their payroll, and are the scope components assembled in the USA with a majority of MadeIn USA components?

Answer:probably Leupold, Burris, and Redfield (owned by Leupold)in that order. Weaver is likely 4th. All make good scopes.

Unless you desire to spend $1-2K for a U.S. Optics (I don't care much for what they make as to hunting, but pretty durable as they should be for the money...I have plenty of the other 4 comapanies scopes that are working great 20 years after they were purchased.

Leupold and Redfield are made/assembled in Oregon, glass is from Asia;

Burris FF2's are made in Phillipines, Signature, Black Diamond are made in US, glass is Asian;

Zeiss Conquest is assembled in US, glass??

I understand that most lens glass comes from Japan and some from Austria (Schott Glass). Scope makers order the quality they want.

Nikon, Zeiss and Swarovoski are supposed to grind their own lenses. None of them make glass.

Just this morning, my wife told me I was wrong, so don't take the above as 100% accurate.

Nikon and Japan in general make the best of products coming from "the east" ( our west..lol) but Nikons dont compare with the top quality European glass.. And Swarovski has been in the leaded crystal market since the sun first started coming up in the east!!!

Swift optics used to use U.S. made Schott glass from NY.? Assembled in koreaa

I believe all Nikons are now assembled in the Phillipines. There tactical L.E. model used to be made in Japan.

ALOT of scopes, binoculars, are now assembled in the Phillipines.

Leupold,Redfield and top end Burris. Redfield being about the least exspensive. I have 2 of the newer Refields and they've been fine 2-7, 3-9.

Redfield needs a 6-18 model with A.O. for varmint hunters!

Schott Glass is a German company, not Austrian. Swarovski uses Schott glass.

Zeiss also uses Schott glass. Which only makes sense, considering Schott and Zeiss are one and the same....

I sent Zeiss conquest back and they went to Hungary?? So not sure about assembled in US, took almost 3 months to get em back.

It sure is depressing that the US outsources everything!!! everything... ridiculous.

There is not enough demand for quality optics in the USA for a company to put its energies into it due to Americans wanting $25 plus a hour when overseas it can be done for under$10.I have called several of the optic companies with this same question and that is what they told me.Glass is bought as a iso 9000 market and optic companies buy the best quality they want and apply their finish work to get the best glass per dollar they can.
