V Max Round for 22-250?

I like a heavier bullet for predators. I've use a 52 grain Sierra BTHP for many years with excellent results out of my 22-250 and my 220 Swift but I've tried the V-Max's, mostly 50 grain, with good results. I like IMR 4064 although a number of other powders work well, too.

Back in the mid 60's bullet choices were fewer but I lived close to Sierra Bullets when they were in Santa Fe Springs, CA. It was only natural for me to shoot Sierras since I bought their factory seconds by the lb. I found the 50 grain Blitz bullets were very efficient killers in my 222 but couldn't be used in my newly purchased 22-250. So after finding out that some of the other bullets made a serious mess at the high velocities I tried the 52 grain HPBT's and found them to be highly effective killers.

IMR4064 and 50GR VMAX. 33.5 GR of 4064.

Not the fastest in the world but dead on accurate out to 250YDs.

Worked well for the last 4 years.

I shoot a Remington 700 SPS Varmint. Bull barrel with a 1-14 twist.
Now that deer season is over it's time to get this thing out and lose it's virginity!
It's very interesting to hear about everyones pet loads.

55 gr vmax toned down to about 3,200 fps in my Ruger shoots great and is a tremendous fur bullet. I don't think I have ever had a pass through on a coyote or cat and have shot many deer with the load too.

My rifle likes the 50gr V-max with 39gr of H380. It's not very fur friendly though...
I gave up on it for a coyote rifle.

I love a 55 grain vmax with 36.6 grains of H380 pushing it. 5 shot groups under 1/2" MOA. Never had a pup get up and run after the pill and fur meet.

the 55gr sierra blitzking in the red box federal premium shoots great in my encore...best group was 5shots 1.28" at 200yards off bags no results on fur yet though but im working on it

First year with a Stevens 200 in 22-250, but it shoots the Winchester Supreme 55 grain ballistic tips better than several other factory rounds I've tried. And in the first 5 coyotes I've taken with it, the exit holes have been minimal, when they exit at all. Might be just a string of luck though.

55 V-Max Ballistic Tip with 34 Grains of IMR 3031. or
50 Nosler Ballistic Tip with 40 Grains of H380. Both shoot good out my ruger.
