VA Groundhogs

Yes, not consistently yet, but ever so often on those sunny warmer mid-days. Of course I saw one last winter, out at 0800 in the morning, and the truck thermometer said 32*.

Is that 204 itching? Soon!

Pruson,

You better beleive it. I am stir crazy and want to get after them. Picked up 650 acres in King George that is a mix of pasture and fields. Farmer said they are overrun with them. The 204 is ready. Just put a new stock on it.

I've only seen one so far this winter and that was last weekend. it spotted me driving in and hightailed it back to the treeline.

Sonny - BTW, I have that Browning Micro hunter shooting gnats arse! 35 gr Vmax is the secret formula for this rifle.

Gracie2fish - Grats on the new parcel of land to hunt. Let me know if you need reinforcements!

Another Happy Hornet Hunter. Yep, as long as you stay with the 35gr V-Max and the Browning combined, it is a match made for each other. Honestly, I believe there is something about the length of that bullet and the twist rate of the Browning Micro Hunter barrels that simply jells the accuracy. You make about the eighth person that I has been really please after my suggestion of that combination.

I have a Browning Hornet Micro Medallion. The guy who sold it to me gave me a load for 40 gr bullets. Care to share your 35 gr load? I have almost 1000 35gr VMaxs I bought to use in a CZ Hornet, but converted it to a .17 AH, so I have a lot of bullets.

WSR primer, Remington brass, 35 gr Vmax, 11.2 gr of H110. Many have suggested small pistol primers and Lil Gun for the powder, which i will try in the future.

Presently, I'm getting 1/4" groups at 100 yards and 1" at 200 yards.

Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.

FWIW, mines a Medallion as well.

Edited to add C.O.L. = 1.711" (I think? I'll have to check when I get home)

I was shooting steel with a buddy last Saturday from his hill top with my AR and had just gotten the dope for hits at 502yds on the plate when we took a break. He looked 180° to where we were shooting and here goes a hog at 475yds across the field. I leveled down on him and fired hitting to his left a few feet. I still had my windage dialed for the opposite wind where the plate was

. I held off and walked three more in before he got to the fence row. Last shot was right at his tail. He never knew I was shooting at him. He dissapeared right around 490yds when he hit the fence row on the last shot. That's a long way for those little 50gr. V-maxes

I got my first of the year early in January from a distance of about 10' with the 17HMR. Do leg hold traps count

Lil Gun, find the sweet spot between 12.6 and 13.0, usually all of 13 with those 35 gr V-Max. A friend of mine uses this load in his Micro Hunter to match my accuracy with the Hornday factory fodder. Groups are very similiar to those spoke of by the Virginian, but don't tell anybody cause Hornets are not suppose to shoot like that, and it will cost you credibility (LOL). Eric is not stretching the truth at all.

I love my other Hornet too, 17 Ackley Hornet also on a Browning Micro Hunter action.

Confirmation. They are out and about today. Just got a call from a buddy who lets me hunt and they are above ground today. Kills me that I'm in the office. Get after them fellas!
