wal-mart guns?

not true, walmart orders huge runs of guns that are made so fast they do not get the attention they should, therefore the quality is not what it should be.i have bought 2 guns from WM a charles daly 12 gu semi and a rem 510 22 semi, both were returned for cash due to the action block on the daly splitting in half and the 22 semi spring wore out after 800 rounds, wouldnt cycle. In order to sell the guns for what WM wants to pay the manufacturers have to cut corners to make the profit the want,go to a sporting goods store pay a couple dollars more and you wont be sorry,i replaced both the guns at sporting goods stores and i still own them today with NO problems, the ones from WM lasted a month each.

Wal-Mart gets super prices by buying super quantities. Remington, Savage, Marlin and Winchester, as well as other manufacturers, do not set up and make special runs of "less than normal quality" guns for Wal-Mart. I'm sure that some people have had problems with some of these "discount house" guns but I've seen my share of problems with "gunshop" products also.

They are right why Walmart sells them that there prices becasue they buy so many. One of my family memebers is over a Big part of walmart. He said said the same thing . because they buy so many at one time. VM

With all the legal actions being taken against firearms manufacturers these days..... I can't even begin to think that they might consider making a "shoddy" product.....

While I've bought all my firearms from* my favorite local gun shop because I enjoy dealing with the owners, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to go through Wal-Mart.

me!

* Or "through" when I've had them shipped to an FFL.

Nonya....the CD was way less that stellar when it was made...no matter who they originally shipped it to. Didn't have a thing in the world to do with being a "Wal Mart" gun.

Tough luck on the remmy, it may well have been one that slipped through the cracks, but it could have just as easily showed up on your Gun dealers rack as Wal Marts.

Eddie is correct on this one....

As is me........

Gun manufacturer's based on liability issues, would never produce a gun cheaper for one retailer, than they would for another. All of them come off of the same line, and receive the same attention.

WalMart just buys in much larger quantities....much, much larger.
I'm personal friend's with the sporting goods manager at our local WalMart, and he's filled me in on their buying practices. I've never bought a gun, or scope from them, but I wouldn't have a problem doing so.
I like to support my local gun shops & suppliers more so, than WalMart, if possible.
As I need powder, primers & bullets more often, I take the extra trip to my supplier, and while there, buy whatever else I need that might also be carried by WalMart.

Although some do, personally I carry no antimosity towards WalMart.
Based on their changing business practices, they'll eventually go by the way of the other big retailers like K-Mart and Ames.
WalMart's original values died with it's owner, Sam Walton, sorry to say, and now it's owner's/management are turning towards cutthroat busine$$ practices.

Although a little more specific, bigger businesses like Gander Mountain (example) is also putting a hurt on the smaller "mom & pop" gunshops.

It's a lot like the family dairy farms around here.....a kind of "go big, or sell out" mentality. I don't like it, but it seems to be the wave of the future......sad.

Take care,
Bob

8 out of 10 firearms related forums have a thread about guns from Walmart.
Please stop the insanity.

I agree danurve.....

I belong to better than a half dozen forums, and I've seen it time & time again.....I don't understand it really.

I just thought I'd add the "bulk buying practices" as the reason for their less expensive guns. Notice I didn't say cheaper.
They buy in bulk and pass the savings on to the customer.

Oh by the way, speaking of "passing things on".....your about to get some snow for Thanksgiving Dan.....I'm not psychic at all......we're getting pelted now (9:00 AM) and it's coming your way....... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

No deer yet.....by the way...population seems thin ????
One coyote down though.....buddy got lucky Sat. when one came walking in to him....young male 38lbs.

Take care,
Bob

I've got a Marlin 25 in .22 mag and a Savage .243. Very happy with both guns especially the .243. It was a package deal with a 3-9X scope. Took the scope off and put it on the 22 mag. Then got a BSA 12-32X Platinum model and put that on the .243. Grouped 1" with factory ammo. Then worked up a load with Sierra 70 gr with 38.5 gr. Reloader 15. This grouped better than 3/8 inch, very easily covered with a dime. See my article in Gun Test Magazine, Firing Line page 27, October 2005. Would upload photo if I could figure out how to do it.

Cheap guns at Wal-Mart? both my 10/22's are fine, no problems with them at all. My Encore, it was perfect out of the box and is still the best rifle I own. All 3 Came from Wal-Mart with my Encore being one of the last Califorina Wal-Mart guns.

Years ago I had a choice of one local place to buy guns and ammo. Bought a nice Ruger 22-250 ($500 way back when that was serious change) and had it a month when the action failed to eject the spent casing. Took it back to my local retail man (who also had his gunsmith shingle hanging out) to be told "Looks like a Ruger problem to me, want their address ?"

Since then, I ocaisionally have purchased a couple of guns from Wally, one of which developed a problem after 11 months of fairly heavy use but with good maintenance. When I asked the manager what their policy was after 11 months of use, he replied "I'll betcha Wal-Mart buys a whole lot more guns from Savage than you do, how about you bring it back and you pick something else out from my stock ? That way Savage won't make an issue out of you using it for 11 months."

Long story short, 15 years before Wal-Mart came to my little town, Old Jack the gun store owner lost his [beeep] selling and smithing guns, sold out and took a lot of local merchants to the cleaners when he declared bankruptcy. But for sure he had an easy customer service policy-NONE.

I hate shoppoing at Wal-Mart as much as anybody, but to think the distributors and manufacturers save up their rejects, defects and returns for Wal-Mart with the mass quantities they buy, I don't think so.

Fantasize for a moment; You are the manufacturer of a product, any product, that is well known and has over the years built a good reputation among consumers. Maybe it's Pampers, Kleenex, Fridgidaire, Remington, or Winchester. Now, why would you damage your own product acceptance by building some of a lesser quality just so a retailer could sell at a discount?

Imagine for a moment the devastating effect on a gunmaker if someone actually proved that they were making "quickie specials" to fill Wally's orders.

Ludicrous.

I thought this was what forums was for ask questions, tell stories, and just make a few friends that are interested in the same things you are interested in.
