Washing a tanned Fur?

I just got done tanning my Badger and after it had dried i checked the hide and didn't like my fleshing job. It was my first badger and didn't get it down far enough so i used a mini flesher of mine and took a little more membrane off. The hair set well, but got some oils from the membrane on the hair and need to know if it would be ok to hand wash it in some water and Tide laundry detergent? Any advice would be great. Thanks

There's a good chance by not getting the fat off the tan couldn't do it's job. You could wash it with Dawn dish soap and water. Just use a rag in the mixture and it should dry nice and shiny.

So would it be bad if i got the hide wet again or does it matter? And the tan got through it pretty good, i just need to wash the fur to get the oils out of it because it is greasy. Also i am wondering about getting the smell out of the hide and the fur, would washing it in the dish soap do the job or any better ideas?

I am using Krowtann 2000 and it works great, but i don't have any pickle crystals or anything. Would you suggest that i resoak it in a neutralizing bath for a few hours or is that the same thing? And if so would it be ok to put it back in the tan?

I wouldn't put it back in the neutralizing bath, it could over neutralize and ruin your tan. When using the Krowtann 2000 make sure you follow the neutralization to a T, many people have had problems with slippage by neutralizing with to much soda or to long duration in the mixture.
I'm not real familiar with badgers but if you found more grease during fleshing then you may not have a good tan. Some animals require degreasing prior to tan. I have used Rittels super safety solvent to degrease a bear prior to Krowtann and it came out nice. Some people use 4oz of Dawn per gallon of water and have some success degreasing with it, but I have never used the Dawn.
I would degrease it, then perform the cycle again. I know this isn't what you wanted to hear but if grease came out when you did your final fleshing the skin may not have a good tan. Think of it this way, if you soak a rag in oil/grease then put it in water, the rag will not absorb the water. The same thing can happen with a skin, the tan may not penetrate all the way through. Good luck

Well, the hair isn't slipping or anything, but there was a little grease coming out while fleshing it, so i know i didn't do a good enough job on it. I guess i will try they dawn, i don't want to have to wait for anything in the mail, but i did get it down to where i need it to be, so i am sure the Dawn will work ok. Thanks a lot Trap, i appreciate it.
