We would like for all in the industry to know.....

I am paid to provide the Piracy Watch that I do for HS but it is interesting to me that I still take it so personally when I find people taking what is not theirs. I get a drug free high when I nail piracy on the computer. I have a computer file that I use for the piracy work that I call "audio snoop" and a file within that which I store the confirmations in labeled INAILEDYOURASS.wav. How telling is that? By the way when I make an accusation, I have never been wrong. Forgive me for tooting my own horn.

I think the "attaboy" responses are simply a manifestation of peoples desire to see the good guys win. I too like to see the bad guys get their just punishment occasionally in this ever deteriorating society we live in. Maybe it stems from the story my father told me about a time in his WWII Navy days when he broke a beer bottle over the head of a bully who was picking on a lesser man in a bar one night.

I don't feel attacked by you at all. I will say though that I think you are an interesting study. I would like to spend some time around the campfire to get to know you better. I think this is a horrible medium to try and accomplish that.

I think it is important to do both the watch and the improvement of the product line. I do believe we are winning the battle to keep competitors from stealing our intellectual property in the large picture. I am not foolish enough to think that we will stop it from happening in the end user realm.

We have stopped many from illegal distribution of our sounds. I know that sounds like the guy who says "I can quit smoking any time I want...I have done it two dozen times"" but the sooner I can catch them, the more I can minimize the damage. I will say that I am finding more and more instances of large libraries NOT having our sounds in them. I want to believe that is possibly a sign of our progress. The sense of relief I get from that is almost as good as the high of nailing the bad guys.

I would love to have a conversation around the campfire with you about your faith in "change". There times when change is for the worse, not the better. I hope we never get to a place where we never try to stop wrongdoing because it is just easier to make another product and move on. Maybe about now you are thinking that I would make a pretty good Dinosaur and you just might be right.

Thank you for this response Gerald. I laughed really hard on that .wav file. I know catching these guys takes on a personal feeling. I had a dream once of running down someone who broke into my car. A dream, but gratifying none the less. As I have said repeatedly, no one questions whether these people taking your calls illegally is ok. My only contention is whether the fight is worth the cost.

I want to clarify. I have no faith in change. I don't believe it is for the best. I won't turn this into a political thread, but I would say few on this forum think the change going on in today's world is good. Only that it is unavoidable. I am not a "napster" kid. I frequently implement organizational changes for my clients to protect them from this behavior. I had a client recently who was given the same task ask you. He asked me about a file he had downloaded. That file linked to the most abundant method for pirating copyrighted content on the Internet today. He had no clue what it was.

Thank you for being patient with me. It took a long time to work through this post. I've actually developed some new ideas of my own. I've never written this argument out. Ultimately, I think you "like me more" as you read because you see our goal is the same. We want to see the Johnny Stewart lines succeed. We just disagree as to how that is best accomplished. That and I feel very strongly that antipiracy efforts eventually degrade your product.

The sites who are distributing these sounds are the culprits, because most of them don't give credit or list where the sounds came from... Yes we are ignorant if they are JS, FP or even WR sounds... but the site that distributed them for free or profit is at the heart of the problem.

Myself I have a blog, I have a website. But I would NEVER think of taking a copy of the Lohman CDs that I purchased legally and put the MP3's on my site for ANY REASON.

If you want the Lohman Sounds then buy them. Now on the other hand if its a hunting partner of mine... I may or may not let him use my caller or even my card... I won't be a hypocrite and say that will NEVER happen.

But on the other hand, that is a 1-1 exchange, I don't have 100 hunting buddies, but when you post it on the internet. Now you are talking MILLIONS of people have access to these sounds, that is a substantial chunk. This goes for music, movies, predator caller sounds anything you can post.

Look at this way. Would you ever think of going to the library pulling down a copy of your favorite book, then photocopying it, white out the author's name and put your name on it and then sell it with a slightly different title or even give it away?

NO WAY there is no one on this site (I hope) who would ever think of doing that. But that is exactly what happens when someone STEALS sounds.

IF you shoplift money from the bank, but drop it off in the Salvation Army kettle as soon as you walk out the door, guess what? YOU DID NOT PERFORM A PUBLIC SERVICE, YOU COMMITED A FELONY, and that is what copyright infringement is a FELONY with up to a 250,000.00 fine per occurance. The reason why the fine is so high is in the old day it was hard to prove, so they had to make an example of those who they could actually CATCH.

I however agree that EVERY call company should provide a sample of their calls for free. They should be encoded with the Full Name of the Company and the Name of the call in the file name... that way we know where they come from.

If you offer lets just say 1/2 dozen free calling SEQUENCES, you will probably pull in more customers for SOUNDS.

I know that I have purchased nearly 100.00 worth of sounds off the internet. I have been to Varmint Als and downloaded a lot of sounds, but I have no idea where any of those sounds came from.

With a decent Microphone Pre-Amp quite Room and Audacity a Person CAN make their own sounds. You could offer those sounds per click. There may be business model just for CALLER SOUNDS.

That's what I like to do is purchase calling sequences. I would rather buy a 20-minute sequence. Than download 20 seperate sounds.
