Weaver Nitrex Scopes

Has anyone looked at these, in person? Or, better yet, does anyone own one of these. I am thinking about getting one. Thanks for any input.

i just received the 3-15x50 illum reticle. I plan to put it on my suppressed .204 for calling this year. Overall I believe it will be a good value. I would compare to nikon monarch for glass and overall build. The crosshairs are a bit heavy on the illum model, but I should have expected that with this type of illum. I have not mounted it or tried the tracking yet. I would say it beats the heck out of a buckmaster's glass and eye-box. I will post a review when time allows.

I like the looks of that scope. I was thinking about the EBX reticle in the same scope. Thanks for the input. Are they 1" or 30mm tubes?

1"

They only offer the illum in the duplex. I only went the illum for night calling, otherwise would have went with standard. Mine was $279 after rebate.

Hi, My first post on this forum. Read your inquiry on the Nitrex scope and joined to comment about brand. So happens last Thursday I ordered a Nitrex TR2 series 3-15X42SF from Natchez and got it Tuesday. Shipping cost/insurance from them about $17. With $100 rebate, final cost will be $218. Scope is a discontinued model, but heck, too good a price to pass up.

I'm a retired guy. After a 35+ year absence, I got back into guns, reloading and shooting about 4 years ago. Three years ago joined a shooting club and I shoot each Sunday morning with about 7 guys who can afford some mighty nice rifles that have Leopolds, Nikons, Zeiss, Sightron, Swavorski and etc. With my retirement income, buying such scopes for my modest centerfire rifles not feasible for me. I have about 12 scoped centerfire rifles, many equipped with brands my fellow shooters wouldn't put on a 22LR. LOL! Guess the couple of Swift Premier scopes I own are my best.

I think this Nitrex I got will be well received by gents I shoot with. Seems to be a well built scope with nice features. I've viewed thru many of the scopes of my fellow shooters during the last few years and feel the optics on my TR2 Nitrex is comparable to theirs, being very very clear and etc. Windage and elevations adjustment knobs are crisp and has an audible click. SF is smooth and no loss of lens clarity at any power. Since I don't hunt, just shoot paper late in the morning, not particulary interested in its light gathering capabilities for shooting very early or late in the day, but think it is pretty good.

Discounted Nitrex scopes at Natchez are all discontinued models. Weaver version of TR1 series is their Grand Slam and TR2 is the Super Slam. Both companies owned by ATK. From what I gather, ATK will continue selling the Nitrex line, but have reduced the number of models offered.

By the way, ATK had a line of scopes called Federal Intensity. They discontinued selling this brand of scopes after acquiring Weaver, but they still exist as the Weaver 40/44 models. Have one of the Intensity aspherical lens scopes I bought from Natchez....darn good glass and I've gotten some very good comments from my shooting buddies that have view thru its lens.

Mounted scope on a 7mm-08 rifle today that I'll try out this Sunday.

This must be the highly knowledgeable Martini rifle gent.

Nitrex states eye relief close to 4" on my particular TR2 scope. With my old eyes and trifocal glasses.....seems around 3" to me. Have mine on a 7mm-08 rifle and expect no problems with it.

Okoyote,

I have been trying to find a picture of the illuminated model, and am having no luck. Is the control for the illumination on the top?

If you had the time I would greatly appreciate if you could post a picture of the scope.

thanks....

No sir, tried that and also the Nitrex website.....Nitrex website doesnt even show side focus.

Unless the on/off switch is worked in with the side focus (which would be nice), I believe it is just a stock photo for all the different models listed.

To review Nitrex models at Natchez. On Natchez opening website page, look on right side and click open their Fall 2010 Closeout Catalog....Nitrex scopes on page 3. Using the part number in the catalog, enter it in Natchez part # search and you'll then see a better pic and more info on scope.

Not all TR2 nitrex scopes are side focus, just those above 10 power if I remember correctly.

no need for a pic....that answered my question...thanks.

Took my new TR2 3-15X42 SF nitrex to range today on my 7mm-08 rifle. Had 4 of my fellow shooters, who use the Burris, Leopolds, Nikons, etc., that are much more critical/demanding of scopes than me examine the scope, play with adjustments and view thru its lens at a 100 yard target or the 200 yard berm.

They were impressed with the optics and features and thought it was a heck of a scope for the $218. A couple of them expressed interest in buying one of them.

As for performance of scope today when shooting the rifle with it.....not good, but not scopes fault. Discovered scope mount screws had loosened after I'd shot most of ammo.

i got one of the tr one models in 3-9x42 with the $50 rebate came to $99. to me the glass is as clear as my elite4200, or any monarch i own; the only thing you give up is some eye relief. scope tracks correctly, glass is clear... best deal going imo.

In their time-, the Weaver Grand Slams were a very good scope at their price point. They were exceptionally immune to recoil and tracked very well. The power adjust ring is excellent. Their coatings and glass were comparable to the $250-400 range of scopes. Unfortunately the ownership changed a few times and no improvements were made for many years. Recently with the release of the Super Slam scopes, I was hoping for a resurrection in the product line but I haven't heard of many sales or reviews good or bad.

I would place the Grand Slams above the Fullfield II, VX-2, Elite 3200 and Buckmasters and just slightly below the Monarch, VX-III and Elite 4200. The Super Slams were supposed to compete with the newer Monarchs, Big Sky, 4200's and the VX-3 but I have no idea of how they actually matched up.
