I also strip a little sage off the brush around where im sitting and rub it on me plus it is dirt cheap and everywhere

playing the wind works better

I am looking for some input on what everyone thinks the best cover scent is?

A bullet in the boiler before the critter has a chance to smell you, IMO.

I can't help but use something, goes back to my deer hunting days, I will use rabbit or rabbit/coyote urine, but realize that I won't fool a coyote's nose!

When I first started hunting coyotes I tried using cover scents...

I tried about everything available and didn't find anything that worked as well as playing the wind and proper setup. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Now, I just rub down with roadkill... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Find a great big bloated dead critter and rub that stink all over yourself! It will give you maybe a few seconds more time to get a shot off. You won't have to worry about hunting partners or even game wardens getting close to you! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

The best thing is still to just play the wind! Stay upwind of your hunting partner and I guarantee he won't be thinking about shooting your coyote! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
And then after you set up correctly, it works even better because we know thousands of coyotes have died from not being able to get a hunters smell to begin with... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Pretty cool! This is secret information so don't tell anyone were or who told you. Give it a try... you won't be sorry! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

Nikonut is right. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Proper stand set-up and be obsessive about the wind direction.

If you cant set up they way you want....set up anyway, & take Will's advice of shooting them before they get in you scent cone. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Cover scents won't do much good in my experience, & just make you smell worse than you will at the end of a hard days hunting & handling coyotes. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I use Abercrombie Fierce /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif, Seriously, like the others said, the wind is your friend. Try and shoot'm before they get downwind. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Hey Kelly!

If I remember right, your cigars smell like roadkill anyway! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Really though, that is a good point... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
Some say that smoking will kill a stand but from what I've seen, cigarettes and cigars can tend to make critters curious more than wary. Granted, like anything predator related. that won't ALWAYS be the case.

Dang it Kelly! I was just about to say that Malboro or Pall Mall works great for me. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Like others have said, Wind direction is your best cover scent.

Me and Dad are faverable to Malboro /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Like most of them said above, use the wind.

A wildlife Biologist told me a coyote can smell 2 parts per million, so cover scents were useless.

Get sprayed point blank by a skunk - after you quit vomiting, you just don't care anymore. I don't know if a coyote will smell you, but everyone you socialize with will.

When you come home after work, you walk in a smell spaghetti cooking. The coyote smells, tomoto sauce, noodles, oregano etc.

They will just smell you and the cover scent. Use the wind.

i use.....FABREZE.......extra strength......it pretty well covers the stench of a gamey coyote on my truck's seat covers. ( post said " cover" scent....LOL )
