!!!!!!!!WHAT ARE THE BEST COVER SCENTS???????

A big can of that Nalley's chili with Walla Walla onions the night before works pretty well. The coyotes can still smell you, but they figure you've been dead a day or two I reckon.
Plus you don't need to buy a rodent squeaker, so you saved some more money right there. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

+1 on wind ( and not the kind you break- all that guarantees is a frequent changing of the guard with calling parners /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif)
 
Yeah same here, but Im never sure if I sure have my first of the day until im back at the truck..lol I guess if you play the wind it does'nt really matter much.

Forget about trying to hide your scent. Sometimes, they may make a difference, but most of the time they don't do anything. Pay more attention to the wind, and use that to your advantage. Leave your smokes at the truck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I couldn't agree more with Steven on this. Cover scents never improved my hunting one bit. The coyotes that circled downwind always busted me no matter what extra stink I was putting in the air. I might-and I mean might have gotten a second or two longer to shoot at a marginally confused coyote.

Very rarely is a stand setup perfect, but I think paying attention to your field of view downwind and sitting as close to stone-still as you can are your best tactics. And you don't end up with animal musk or urine on your hands or clothes.

I use Skunk scent when I can get it, I do not put it on me, I put a piece of cammo cloth on a string and tie it to a limb down wind of my self and put a few drops of skunk scent on it.

Can a yote still smell me? I have no idea if he can or not but it might over power his nose for a short time.

You don't want to get none of it on your skin or cloths.

It seems that you have a pretty good grasp for a young fella, but I've got a question for you. Do coyotes find smoke more offensive or dangerous smelling than human BO? I know many people are absolutely disgusted by smoke, but how do coyotes, or any animals feel about it?

Educated coyotes are fully aware of "second hand smoke" issues and think more of their bodies than to subject themselves to those toxic substances. Never underestimate the little ones, they are more aware and smarter than you might think... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I have seen a few that thought a fine Dominican with a Connecticut wrapper was to die for.

As coyotes are individuales, others tend to be repulsed and have no intention of being anywhere in the vicinity of even the best cigar.

Truth be know I don’t smoke on stand. Not because of the smell, but because of the movement required.

The days are getting shorter. Won’t be much longer.

I'm with you Kelly. I find it interesting that many people have the impression that smoking while hunting is taboo. I don't smoke on a stand either. I also don't smoke in my truck. I tend to burn one on the way out. Excellent wind indicator and the smell, whether it's offensive or not, doesn't go anywhere my stink doesn't.

As for the days getting shorter, I could use some of your optimism. Prediction is 115 or so here this weekend. Hunting weather seems a long way off.

If trying to change hunting partners add a couple of hard boiled eggs and wash down with a couple cans of beer. Just remember NO SMOKING.
 
Jim I hear you. It is going to be 108 here today and add a little humidity it will be bad. I hope to see you in Jan also. Take care and stay cool if you can.
