For coyotes, it's my 17 Remington Classic. Sitting on a Harris bipod. With a 3-9 Leupold on top of it. That gun just feels perfect to me.
I normally shoot coyotes with a 25 gr. Hornady, sitting on just enough Varget to push it 4050 fps. It easily prints 1/2" groups at 100 yards, and heart shot coyotes can be found with in 5' of point of impact.
This past week, I have been working with some 15 gr Bergers. 25.4 grains of Varget gives me a 4,300 average and those pretty little half in groups again. I haven't yet been willing to try a shot in the heart lung area of a coyote, but I've popped a couple of them in the ear at 80+ yards. Talk about your fur saver load! Not a mark on the pelt!
The bullet is so fast and the recoil is so light, you can watch the hit and falling coyote in the scope! So far, the coyotes hit with this load have been laying in their tracks at point of impact.
It's not a load for general coyote hunting, but when I go by myself, I can usually get the coyote to stop pretty close to where I want him. Those that don't stop, I don't shoot at.
