What do you expect from your 22 LR?

I use a Sav MK II BTV for a practice gun for field positions. I was surprised by the difference it can make. Most of the time I can shoot 5 into an inch at 100 yards from my chair and sticks. I tried my tripod seat and the group opened. Today I went out with a light cross wind and was able to keep 4 under an inch but kept getting a flyer to the left. I'm having a little trouble getting close enough to the scope so have a rail on order. I'm trying to decide if the flyer is me, the rifle or ammo. I'm running out of the Federal stuff so we'll see next time how some Wolf Match ammo works.

Personally I don't expect more than minute of gopher at the 100 yard line. Although the new Savage MK II, That I just acquired may just very well far exceed that expectation .
I would be totally fine with what @AWS posted in those positions. Definitely MOG (minute of Gopher).
Nice very nice Sir.

Just how far are you prepared to go down the .22 rifle ammo rabbit hole? Find the right lot and it WILL make a big difference. :)

Remember its rimfire ammo…

But have you cleaned your barrel lately?

I dont expect anything, but with its favorite ammo and no wind i can usually shoot MOA to 100-150yd off a sled. On a tripod forget about it, i cant shoot worth a damn off of one. I just use a tripod to help steady in hunting situation and keep MOC, definitely not for range accuracy.

You are probably familiar with this, but if you aren't you might consider checking ammo using a rimfire gage which may help eliminate flyers and provide consistent accuracy.
I would think that the only difference between match ammo and common .22 ammo is that the rim thickness is held to a tighter tolerance and is more consistent, which tends to provide better accuracy.

I've got a Savage heavy barrel .22 that will shoot 1.5" groups at 100 yards from prone. I have a buddy with a voodoo that I witnessed hit a coke can from 300 yards with it and standard 1050 fps ammo.

I don't have any "precision oriented" rifles in .22LR, this thread makes me want one.
I'm kinda there with you. When AWS asked "What do you expect from your .22?", the first thing to come to mind was shooting rabbits in the head at reasonable rabbit hunting ranges. I've never really wanted more than that from a .22, but maybe I should.

Same with you DR. I have a s&w ar15/22 and a rossi pump gallery gun that i bought for my dad.
I do have a ruger precision rf in 17hmr that I bought from here that had the barrel turned down, shortened and threaded. Topped it with an Arken in a 20moa mount to practice lr shooting with....of which I have done none.

They are for sure the real deal! ...... and you said "had"?!? 😲😲😮
Yup had, as in past tense....

Back in the 80's I bought a used 40-X single shot heavy barrel with high gloss bluing, born in 1973.

A couple years ago, I decided to sell it, and ended up trading my 40-X barreled action for the Vudoo barreled action.

So I bolted it back in the orange McMillan, & mounted the Sightron on top.

I had no desire to shoot any high dollar ammo in it, and the regular ammo was tough to chamber due to the match chamber.

So I sold it and bought a Begara BMR.

I don't expect anything from my 22 LRs anymore. Lol. Most of my air rifles will smoke them and do anything that I needed the rimfires for......which is mostly plinking, pesting, and small game hunting.

What kind of money do you have in those airguns? Spending dollar for dollar what kind of 22 would you buy with a similar price tag?
