+1

I might add that you have a guy that you feel comfortable talking with and is not a hard head that is not going to pay attention to anything you say...have a plan...work the plan...this eliminates most of the problem areas.

Also, having a hunting partner that is interested in improving his skill sets is Huge with me.

Sliced ham and brown mustard. He's never let me down yet. That and not driving off and leaving me when I miss. That's REAL important.

Those are like unicorns, they don't exist - I'll bet i'm the closest one to that out there though, lol!

Yote skin, i hunt with a guy 16 years younger than i.. I enjoy the fact he stays very engaged til the end..
I also hunt each and every stand like it is the first of the day. Record was thirty stands in a day.. Took a lot of planning to line them up that close. Had a dedicated driver. Dropped us calling and backed out. Started early and went late. Didn't kill a single coyote. Did it all over again the next day.
Here at home i spot, track and stalk alone. I can hunt several days unsuccessfully and still be anxious for the next day. Sometimes by learning where the coyotes aren't ,you determine where they are. Observing tracks on slow days help establish patterns that can be useful at another time. An old hunter friend once said. You don't have to be crazy, but it helps.. Good hunting!

Now that I have seen 6 pages of the Pro's and Con's of a hunting partner are I have decided to post what I expect from a Hunting Partner.

Drive your vehicle 50% of the time
Pay for 50% of the fuel period, you shouldn't have to be asked
Be a good navigator when you are the passenger
Don't constantly lie, stretch the truth or down right plagiarize yourself to others, most people know better and eventually they will catch on and know that you are completely full of BS
When a 3rd person is with and they have their vehicle, don't just start throwing your Shiot in the vehicle. Say - How about I drive this time?
When inviting a 3rd person and they are driving their vehicle and you are the passenger, at least thank them for driving and throw some gas money their way
Say - Hey this spot looks good, wanna try it
Look out the window, constantly look for those "Freebie" Coyotes. Don't stare straight out the windshield, keep your eyes peeled
Don't sleep while your partner is driving (Regardless how tired both of you are)
Find some additional properties that are "Yours" You can call them yours and I wouldn't hunt these areas without you
Don't invite your friends to hunt with you on land your partner secured. (See line above)
Don't beat the Shiot out of your partners land, as in, don't hit the same spots over and over again
The words Please and Thank you should be mentioned more than 2 times per 5 Years.
Don't walk the tops of every hill on the way to set up your stand, Coyotes can see for a long ways, try to be somewhat stealthy
Huddle next to a bush or tall grass, at least try to blend in when the terrain permits
Lay prone on the top of a big hill that has absolutely no cover
Sit where your partner can see you, constant eye contact with each other is very important, make sure you are looking at your partner throughout the stand
When stopping to glass the hillsides, be 100% sure your rifle barrel isn't hanging low, make sure your barrel is straight into the air and not pointing into your buddies direction
When you are snacking, ask, would you like some. It's called sharing
Listen listen listen, if you don't hear what your partner said then speak up and say so! Don't just nod your head OK! Then head a completely different direction.
Don't aim for mass, I really like the chest on shots, this does less fur damage and is a sure way to drop them in their tracks. If you shoot your rifle enough, brag about it constantly and cannot hit a Coyote facing you at 150 yards, go back to the range and find out what you are doing wrong,
I never go to the range, never practice, never spend day after day shooting prairie dogs or whatever. I miss, but my misses are 300 yards plus and I have NEVER claimed to be a good shooter.
Nothing worse than a Nice big furred coyote being gut shot, spinning and then gut shot again,
Don't USE and ABUSE your hunting partner, a partner is a 50/50 share and should be considered and honor to share the same goals as each other.

It may take some time to find that perfect partner, are they out there? I am still searching!

Good post Mr. Pop.....

You would be a fine person to hunt with.

Now that I know a little bit, I'm sorry you got treated that way.

Good luck this 2017 season,Sir.

Thanks Tim! Got 6 confirmed kills so far in 2017, it's gonna be a good season as soon as the paring up and mating. They are definitely tired of Rabbit!

I just want to clarify that I am in NO WAY PERFECT!

I know what works and what doesn't work for the most part, if I was perfect I would hunt 24/7 and not have a job:)

Give and take is all I ask, it's really not that hard and some people just don't have a clue what they do to NOT make a good partnership, and they may never know even after you have warned them over and over again!

I can only be Used and Abused for so long and then it ends very abruptly!

6 is a good start !

I finished '16 with a fox and now waiting for this rain to give into snow, then it's on !

No one is perfect, but some are much better than others.

Someday I'd like to try that western open country pred hunting. I've done it here in the Mi, central and western Tx too. Sure is fun when the places are full of critters !
