What do you expect from your Coyote Hunting partner??

Please share with me some examples of what you would expect from your hunting partner.

I know the list will be quite long, just curious as to how you guys that hunt with a partner do things as far as hunting land, driving, fuel, stand set up etc?

Would you expect them to hunt your private ground with a friend of theirs when you are not around?

Thanks!

be ready, have your own gear, (like weather appropriate boots)

make sure you have your gear working and ready to use.

I would also ask that they don't fall asleep on stands and keep an eye peeled out the window for coyotes.

Speak up if you think we should stop and call a spot.

practice shooting in the off season.

bring food for the ride.

Have your own gear THAT WORKS.
BE QUIET IS VERY IMPORTANT!
Take your truck sometimes
Bring some food sometimes
Have some places we can hunt (Dont always have to go hunt my private ranches)
Just to name a few

This is what I am looking for.

Keep them coming & thanks!

Once you start hunting with good partner/partners it's hard to hunt solo.

I hunt with a couple guys off of here and once I figured out how to communicate quietly and effectively

I like partners that are doing it to have fun as well. Guys that are butt holes and or arrogant about stuff are like fun sponges, just suck all the fun up.

I just like someone that pulls their weight. They don't have to be perfect, just tough.

I also appreciate it when they excel at something that I don't.

So you are saying you nor your hunting partner should walk over/along the top of the hill sky lined the entire way into the stand?

Should they try to conceal themselves in some way? Like next to a Bush or Yucca? Or maybe even go to the prone position on a hill top versus sitting there sky lined once again?

Is it possible this person should have some type of eye contact/communication with you if you are doing the calling?

If we are hunting my land and we stop for gas, YOU pay for it.

Lets hunt your spots too.

Dont be a dog hog.

Dont slam the truck door.

Dont let me catch you on spots I showed you or there WILL be a butt kicking coming to one of us.

Other than that Im easy, give as good as you take or buzz off. Its really that simple.

So you are saying Give and Take equally? Wouldn't that be considered a "Partnership"!

I only go out with a couple of guys. They all have the same traits

1) Smart at least I think so and value their opinion on whatever we hunt
2) Always and I mean always on time.
3) Communicate well, not only while hunting but when we are preparing to go
4) If we take a kid he gets the first shot, if not you best be shooting

Everything else I can live with. I never ask for gas money as I figure I am going anyway and I like to drive so no big deal. If you bring food great I am fat and I like to eat. If not I am fat and I can lose weight.

Indeed it would. Too many time my "partners" want to burn up my ground, always take my truck and never return the favor. They tear thru my coyotes like gangbusters but never offer up anything in return. They use you up and move on to the next sucker. I am a very generous person and if you hunt with me I will show you lots of coyotes and let you kill the lions share of what we call in. I will do this for a good while and when you dont return the favor I will severe our relationship with extreme prejudice. Ive been soured by more than one bastage that used me. My list of folks I let hunt with me is growing ever shorter. Oh by the way, I aint talking public ground, all private ranches.

Personally, I hunt for fun and like to enjoy myself. So, I like
someone that's cool, likes to joke around and basically just likes being out.

Can't stand complainers. A guy could have the best truck and the best gear sold but if they're a drag to be around it's not a lot of fun. Also taking things too serious. I take safety serious out there, but I have enough serious matters going on with work and home...don't need my hunts like that too.

Sure, I like someone with their own stuff, that is a good shot and a good caller (although most rely on electronics anymore). But if they start complaining on a slow hunt...or spend all their time between stands on their cell phone....no thanks.

1. Safe
2. Have gear
3. Show up on time
4. Good sense of humor
5. Patient (don't want to leave stand after 5 min)
6. Positive attitude
7. Have a few spots to call
8. On time

I usually hunt solo, but after tournament hunting with the same guy for the last 5 yrs, were on the same page! But if I had any issues, it would be, 1) STAY quite! And very still on a stand.....2) DON'T get bummed out and stay positive!...3) The most important, "NEVER GIVE UP"!!! Just my .02. Regards, Drop
