hello everyone!

i know i have been posting alot of things asking about shotguns, but i think i have made up my mind as what kind/type to get. i am going to get a 12 gauge "field" shotgun. i want a synthetic that will shoot 3" shells. i want one that i can use for dove hunting in september, duck hunting in december, turkey hunting in march, and everything in between. something that doesnt have to be very nice, but will never let me down! so i would like to get a semi automatic, but a pump might be the best i can do. i can spend 1000 dollars MAYBE, but probally less! im going to put back money every month next year from mowing yards, bushhoging, and working in the field on the farm, and maybe i can just about come up with enough money by dove season next year! so what shotgun would yall reccomend?
thanks for yall's help and being patient with me!
GOD BLESS
Luke

yea my Dad has an 870 in normal wood, but i really want a synthetic. i have never owned a mossberg, but Dad use to have one and he said they are a working gun that wont quit!
any more suggestions?
thanks guys!

I have guided for waterfowl for a few years and I have seen them all in good and bad conditions and the advice so far is bang on I love Rem 870 and BPS and I shoot a Mosberg 500 slug gun for deer I have killed 3 Deer in two years with that gun
and it has never let me down!

as for the semis I shoot a Beretta extrema 2 with kick off for waterfowl and coyote/predators including Black Bear.

for upland and small game hunting I love my Browning Gold fusion in 20ga 3" truth be told it can handle 99% of my shotgun hunting ....Goose can get a little expensive for tungsten matrix and the like...if you are shooting 3-400 birds a year! hence the Extrema 3.5 Winchester expert BB at 1550 fps works well as does 3" estate cartridge BB! ...on the cheap for early season and first shot late season followed by Kent faststeel 3.5" #1 and #BB

start with a gun you can afford that will have a niche for ever (slug gun from 870) and move up and branch out as the situations change and you can afford to get something different! ......just my 2 cents....

God Bless you and keep you safe on your travels in the field
and may he show you the wonders of the wild that he has shown me! Jonathan

First, shotguns have to fit the individual. You about have to go shoot them
at some trap and see how they point. Your favorite gun is near worthless if
it doesn't naturally point for you. Remington 1187's fit me, so that is what
I shoot.

ok thanks!

on the semi automatic side, what are some good ones under 1000? i have heard that the winchester sx3 is a great gun, and the stogeor 2000 has been hit and miss. i have also heard that the franchi i-12 is a great gun!

I have a Browning Gold Hunter 3 1/2. The last year they made the Gold in 12ga. before the Maxus took its place. Its my favorite shotgun. If you can find one anymore new, your lookin at about $700-800. I paid $750 for mine last year at Bass Pro.

As far as a pump gun goes....you really cant beat the 870. I also have a Mossberg 500. And it too for the money is a good gun.

I've got the 870 Wingmaster with 30" full choke and it's a certified crow smoker. I've also got a Mossberg Defender with 20" improved which is worthless for crow shooting but should be ok for home defense.

hey luke. all they guns mentioned are good ones. you should be able to find a great field grade shotgun in an autoloader for $1000 and have change left for several boxes of Dead Coyote shells! i think i gave $565 for my Franchi I-12. I've got a mossberg 500A that i gave $100 bucks for used and got a slug barrel for bonus.

there is some truth to what bigwheeler said. your shotgun needs to fit you well. the I-12 has interchangeable recoil pads that adjust the length of pull. most shotguns are cast for right handed shooters.

i can shoot equally well with the I-12 or the 500A. I've shot over 5000 rounds through the Franchi and about half that throught the 500A. this is my second Mossberg. the first one I traded for a 22lr, but killed over 500 crows with it before i traded it off. both are good dependable weapons. like i said, i can shoot equally well with both, but i prefer the autoloader.

you are welcome to shoot both my guns anytime you want. we can go to the sporting clay range here in Ft Payne. i know lots of guys there and you can get a chance to shoot several makes and models to find what you like.

you want to hunt tomorrow?

nut cracker that is a great suggestion ..the more guns you can put in your hands the more likely you will be in finding guns that feel right and fit well for you!

Jonathan

thanks everyone! and nutcracker that sounds great, and yes i can go hunting tomorrow!

see i like as far as semi's, the sx3, maxus, and the benelli m2 field

as far as pumps, all the ones listed above!

as anyone got the winchester pump? i forget what it is called.
also what about the benelli nova/supernova?

benelli makes good stuff. i really like the inertia operating system. cant beat it for a low maintenance autoloader. less cleaning and maintenance than the gas powered auto-loaders. and i think you'll do well with the synthetic stock. you know i hunt 4-5 days a week, in the mud, rain, snow, wind, dust, whatever. throw my I-12 in the back of the truck after the last stand and grab it again the next morning. after 5 yrs and over 5000 rounds it still looks new and fires on every trigger pull. benelli makes the Franchi, but i think you are aware of that.

where you want to go tomorrow? full day or what? i'm ready to get crackin.

haha it dont matter to me where or how long. im ready to get out there to!

yea i was aware of benelli makeing the franchi. i think those are some great guns! especailly from your experience.
they also make the stoeger if im correct, but i have heard hit and miss about it.
i would like a inertia system, less to clean!

i wonder if there is a differece in the franchi i-12 and the benelli m2 field?
