whats the best range finder for long ranges for the money

I am looking for a range finder that will have no problem picking an animal up at 600 yards. I have many instances when hunting where there is not a hard object to range and not be able to get a reading on anything close to an animal what do you all think I should look at

Leica! (I honestly haven't used a Vectronix or Swarovski so take my recommendations with that background). Price is right for a used 1000 or 1200 Leica, or even a new one, and mine hasn't failed me on ranges beyond 600 yards many times. used mine tonight on a deer at 678 yards, but the deer had plenty of brush around it so it might have been bouncing off sage brush or whatever.
Light, small, simple to use, etc..
 
I have a vortex ranger 1000 and it works great for me. It's a little under 600 yards for consistent animal ranging, about 500-550. but i was ranging fence posts at 700 last night with it. Make sure you check the warranty of the range finder before you buy it, Most have a year warranty beings they are electronic devices.

Tough to argue with that.

I'm going to check the glass on one of those, never even looked at them. Having one less thing hanging around your neck or in your pocket: priceless.

They will ALL work in pitch darkness - they do not use or need any light.
 
I bought two pairs of Bushnell Fusion ARC 10 x 42's when they first came out. For the money, they can't be beat. Saves a lot of hassle not having to carry binos and a rangefinder.

I realize they do not need light to range.

What I should have asked is do they have a lighted display so that the range can be read at night.
It is useless to range a target if you cannot read the display of the range.
 
everyone thinks their rangefinders work pretty good. But the BIG QESTION is... how well do they pick up coyote size targets in open fields. To me... trees and buildings, big stuff like that doesn't count... it's the smaller things that would be needed in a hunting situation.

I love the idea of the combo binos... but never tried them in hunting situations.
