What's up with the Burris scope sale?

I hesitated posting this because I plan on purchasing one and don't really want to advertise this, but there are numerous new in box Burris scopes on EBAY from a few different sources. Mostly Fullfield II 3x9 and 4.5x14 bpelx selling for a whole lot less than retail. So what's up with the sell out? Soon to be discontinued model? Just a good deal? Nah! I guess I'm just a little suspicious when it come to big business.

like everybody in the scope business i think they are trying to clear the shelves because they are bringing out different models, namely side focus. seems like everybody and their uncle ned is going to produce a side focus scope now with trajectory finding reticles and illuminated.

they already have scopes with cameras, now all we need is a scope with a dvd player so we can watch movies while we are waiting for game to appear.

Last year Burris had promotional offers if you bought certain models (it was the $200 class range called the something Two). If you bought one of these they through in a hand held spotting scope worth in their estemation around eighty bucks. My guess in poeple were buying them, keeping the spotting scope and or selling it seperately thinking they're going to make a buck! Personaly I ordeded one in a 3x12 with that new bullet drop compensator and I shipped it back the next day. The scope was heavy, crosshairs were took thick for my liking, not to mention the actual crosshairs had a flaw in them, and the adjustable eyepiece had glue smeared on the outside of it. To say the least I wasnt impressed(no wonder why they had to give something away to get rid of these). If you want a good scope in this price range 99.9 percent of my guns sport Leupolds. You can pick a vx1 or a rifleman 2x7 or 3x9 up for under two hundred bucks right now. A good second alternative would Be Nikon pro staff, I dont own any but if you look though them they are brighter than any of my top line Leupolds and start around a hundred a thirty bucks. Before you buy anything go somewhere they sell alot of optics and look through a few, that will help your descion.

I bought the Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 from SWFA and it came with a 20x50 spotting scope. The rifle scope was excellent for the price as it also had the Ballistic Plex. The spotting scope on the other hand just plain sucked. Burris rifle scopes are made/assembled in the U.S. but their spotters are assembled overseas.

No, the Fullfield II isn't a Leupold but it doesn't cost the same as a VX-II or VX-III either. I would put it up against a Nikon though and I have all three.

This is just my opinion, but I feel there are much better scope values today than the low end Leupolds. The Nikons and the Buschnell Elites are a lot of scope for the money as are the Sightron II scopes.

And for the record, I own quite a few Leupolds, but find the bottom line scopes today to not be that great of a buy.

Again, just my opinion. - BCB

HUNT: Look on that Burris and see if you can find "MAde In America" stamped anywhere.

I have heard from a number of sources that the Fullfield II's that came with the free spotters were made over seas, as were the spotters.

My wife bought me a Fullfield II about the same time I was hearing that and I have looked high and low....can't find "Made In America" anywhere on that scope. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Seems like I remember a similar thread on where Burris scopes were made....maybe graybeardoutdoors.com. From what I remember, a Burris rep. stated that the scopes were made assembled in the U.S. but their spotters weren't. I'll like on mine when I get a chance. It seems to track well so I'm pretty happy with it...Not to mention that Nikons are made in Japan. :)

I purchased the 4x14-40 Fullfield II and have no complaints or regrets for the price.

The free telescope was a useable low end telescope. Thats all I'm going to say about that.

Me too....I just purchased the ballistic plex reticle 4.5x14-42 PA Fullfield II (retails for $399 in Cabela's catalog)with the 12-24x50 compact spotter(retails for $170 in Cabela's catalog) all for $350 out the door at Cabela's. That's savings of around $220 over the catalog price if purchased separately. To me, that's a no brainer when it comes to value.

The riflescope is outstanding(glass and overall construction) and the spotter is nice little bonus for utilitarian service.

Rifle scope is warrantied forever(transferable)on par with Leupold's warranty.

Spotter has a 1 yr. warranty, which should tell you that this is not of the best quality, but should at least get a few years service out of it.

Burris rifle scopes are made and assembled in Greeley CO...my home town (actually Pentax scopes are made in the same place). They do however use some parts made outside the country. Their spotting scopes (the free ones are pretty cheesy) are made in China.

I personally consider Burris a good scope and have owned several. They are generally built heavier than a Leupold. But I will buy the Leupold with a warranty that is good as gold. I used the warranty and was very impressed with a prompt free fast fix. I was just at Sportsmans Warehouse where an employee said he just got a Burris warranted. It took three months with him personally hounding them and the rep. He said the customer was not happy.

I've dealt with Burris customer service a couple times and have been overly satisfied both times.

They've got me hooked!

I think their signature series scopes are the best scopes you can buy for the money. IMHO they beat everything till you get to Zeiss.

I have bought all burris optics for my rifles for years!! I have had a total of 5, still have 4, installed 3 others in the 3x9 blpx for friends and family. Never a problem with any! I dropped my 6mm once while slipping on ice, a direct hit on the burris scope, still on zero!! I will continue to buy them, Good optics + good price = /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif Furhunter

I bought my last Burris off of eBay, a Fullfield II 4.5x14 B-Plex and couldn't be happier. One heck of a scope. I already had one with the regular plex. They are great calling scopes and are on both of my Swifts.

Ditto what everyone says...My 4.5-14X Fullfield II on my .204 in Rem. Mod.7 is clear and accurate, as I shot 4 groundhogs over 400yds...My next purchase will be another Burris Signature in either 24X or 32X to go on my new Rem. XR-100 .204!! gobblr addict

I have a 1x on my TC omega thats been customized with a balistic plex. The plex is worthless but the scope is great!

I have a Burris Fullfield II 3x9x40 that I put on my .204. It seems to be a solid scope. However optical quality is lacking a little on my scope. Has a bit of fishbowl effect around the edges of the field of view. Even the cheap Tasco World Class scopes I've used have clearer optics than the Burris I have.

The Ballisti-Plex has proven to be of little value to me. I don't do a lot of long range shooting. Quality does not seem to be consistent on these bargain scopes. I've heard almost as many complaints as praise.

It does seem to hold it's zero good though.

One feature I don't care for even more than the low quality optics is how the whole rear bell turns to adjust the magnification. It makes flip up scope caps interfere with bolt operation.

The compact spotting scope that came with it is pretty useless. It is actually too small.

I think all the bargain sales are designed to unload a whole bunch of sub quality rifles scopes and spotting scope inventory.

In contrast, I bought a Sightron 3x9x40 for my new Tikka .243 and it seems to have very good optical quality. Maybe I just lucked out and got a good one though. lol!

Good hunting

I'll chime in here. I picked up a Burris 3-9X with the Ballistic Plex this summer in order to upgrade my Savage 12FV, for $164. I locked it down with a 1 piece Leupold base and Leupold rings, and so far I couldn't be happier!

On my 22-250 the first hash mark under the cross hairs puts a 55 grain V-Max almost dead on at 300 yards. I actually got to use it on a long range coyote this weekend and it did a number on him.

The scope is quite clear and seems to be very well built.

My main reason for changing scopes was due to a problem I had last year with my rifle not maintaining a zero after bumping around in a truck. Got rid of the bushnell and the cheap Weaver bases and rings. But I think the Burris made the largest impact.

+1 for Burris!!
Jake
