Well, until a week ago last Friday, mine was a Gray 1991 Ford Ranger EXT, complete with 5-speed manual tranmission, in-line 6 cylinder engine, matching shell, bed liner and diamond tred rail guards. Well, a double-hauler, belly dump gravel truck aparently didn't care for my rig (or me) too much.....
Here is the truck in happier times with Coyotesmak with rifle, after a days hunt, adjacent to an unfortunately empty tailgate.
Here is the same truck after a slight re-configuration by the aforementioned semi tractor and double trailer.
A closer view of the primary point of impact on the passenger side bed wall.
passenger side cab from primary impact.
He blew through the red light, first said he couldn't stop in time, then said his brakes failed... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif. Since he was less than certain, the UHP cited the driver and held the truck for a complete once-over by one oftheir motor carrier units. I have yet to see the final report, but I'm sure it can't be good for the truck driver.
He hit me as I had driven through 4 of the 5 lanes of the intersection on a green light. I had no clue he was coming until just before the impact. He T-boned me and sent my truck spinning away and to the right. Thankfully, I came to rest against a light pole and did not role or hit any other vehicle. The trucks shell, tail gate, and unfortunately my German Shorthaired Pointer, Kaiser were all sent flying on impact. I remained conscious through it all, but was taken to the ER as a precaution by ambulance. Apparently, when 911 received the call, they had "life flight" on stand-by, according to the paramedics that transported me to the hospital. I walked away with some minor soreness, a hair-line fracture to my left arm, a lot of swelling and bruising, and a little light headedness. Kaiser, unfortunately was not so lucky. I could tell at the scene he wasn't going to make it. (He couldn't move, appeared to have broken limbs and bones as well as internal injuries, and had blood coming out of his nose and mouth as he breathed) Animal Control agreed and they put him to sleep for the last time shortly thereafter. I sure miss that dang dog. I'm sure I'll miss him all over again come September. I thank The Lord that I came out of this as well as I did, and that no human members of my family or friends were with me. I guess I still have to get a few things right down here, before I move on into the next life. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
