Whats your sidearm when your a hunting???

I hate to say it but I don't think I could of gutted an Elk knowing a Bear was watching me. Unless I had a buddy with a big gun watching him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I usually carry a Glock 19 or s&w 3913, don't have anything big enough for a Bear. These are more for 2 legged predators. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
 
it wasn't much fun, but i had a buddy on the way to help and i knew if i left it there it would be gone. This year i am hunting in the same area but with a pistol on my side. We ran into some other guys that had packed half an elk out and came back 2 hrs later to find the other half gone, nothing but bear tracks.
 
I always take some kind of gun, when I'm out calling coyotes and taking pictures. As fare as that goes, never leave home with out one. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif GENE'O

If you have ever watched The Hills Have Eyes, that is why I carry the HK into the desert. There are a whole mess load of people that just set up camp in the middle of BFE, and plus lots of tweakers out this way.
 
Ruger MKII .22 when coon hunting.

S&W 629, 6.5 inch Classic model when handgun hunting for deer.

S&W 629 Mountain Gun for most other hunting.

Sometimes I'll carry one of my CCW guns, usually a 357 S&W model 60, the 3 inch adjustable sights version.

If the hunting involves a lot of walking (bird hunting, etc) , I don't carry a handgun.

either my XD-40 with 13 rounds of Black talons or my GP-100 .357 MAG that i got when my Dad died,and i always carry extra clips or speed loaders with me also

I carry a handgun, because if something large surprised me while hunting, I can get more rounds out and get them out faster from my Glock than I can in my pump shotgun. If something is charging it’s easier to aim my Glock and fire repeatedly than with a scoped rifle. Lastly, if a bear actually got on top of me, I can still use the pistol in my hand where a rifle/shotgun would be useless. I remember seeing a news story on TV about a fish and game officer out west that was attacked by a grizzly. The bear was on top of him and he unloaded his .44 mag into him. On the last shot the bear finally dropped dead. The officer was messed up, but lived to tell the story.
 
I carry a FN Five-seveN.

21 rounds of fairly fast moving bullets, and it is easy as pie to shoot well.

If what needs killing wont be stopped with that, I'll probably be emptying out a rifle or shotgun anyway.

Ain't much in the way of 4 legged creatures I need this for around G'hogdown, OH, just like to carry it out g'hoggen. Carrying it for Black Bear this fall in PA. 300gr XTP's at, if I remember right, 1200fps. Man, thats gotta hurt. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

60 smith, 2" bbl: first three rat shot & 2 158 gr. LSWC.
This one took 'em all. I think the pattern is less than perfect from the short barrel, but the first shot always stops them for follow ups.


Shot a 4 footer Thursday and took only one shot. Looked like the shot capsule may have hit the head as there was more blood than usual.

I just seen this thread...let me tell you guys Bloodhound came out of that draw out of breath, white as a sheet and said "is there anything behind me?" I wish they wernt doing that 5 year study up there....we would go back and get that one!

You know what I carry, the para P-13 I would like to see that S&W though
 
When hunting coyotes I usually carry my 2.5 inch S&W Model 66 in .357 Magnum.
When I'm deer hunting I carry my 4 inch S&W Modle 29 in .44 Magnum.

I never carry a sidearm if I am carrying a rifle. If I don't have a longgun, a double action revolver with a 4" or longer barrel in 357 is my choice. If I was in brown bear country a 44mag double action revolver would be my choice.
