Whats your sidearm when your a hunting???

Glock Model 20 (10mm) in a Bianchi shoulder holster. It's light, compact. easy to carry, ultimately reliable, and almost as powerful as a 41 magnum.

Mine has a custom KKM barrel, 3.5lb trigger kit, and adjustable Meprolight night sights.

15 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber and I'm not afraid of ANYTHING on the North American Continent. When you care enough.... Send the very BEST!

Choose loads from the 135gr super hot, blow up anything load all the way up to a hard cast 220gr "bear thumper" load.

Everything else is just a cheap imitation. It's the ultimate hunting backup gun for the NA continent and yes I also have called up mountain lions, twice, when coyote hunting and a 223 just ain't my idea of a mountain lion gun and if they jump on your back that rifle ain't gonna cut it anyway. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Glock 27 (.40 S&W) using G23 mags and grip extender for 14 rds and a spare mag. Alternating Corbon HP with FMJ's in both mags. FMJ's are just in case of hogs, I want more penetration.
 
When using Predator calls here in Pennsylvania it is not unheard of to call in bears. Although most bears I encountered here in Pa. are more afraid of me, then I was of them,you never know when you may run into one that is not afraid. I carry a Ruger Redhawk in a 44 magnum. Someone once said "prepare for the worst and hope for the best."
 
I have and us 2 hand guns. A Smith & Wesson custom shop
M-29 lightweight in 44 mag. In our shotgun /black powder
counties in carry a re-worked COLT third model dragoon (copy)bored out to .475. With 40 grs. of pyrodex P I shot thru 2 deer. The pistol is to heavy.. I carry it in a back pack to my stand.
 
Ruger Super Redhawk 44 mag, with Hornady XTP (240 gr). When I'm bored I have even been know to blast a few P'dogs with it.

Ruger Single Six in 22lr or a 6" S&W 686 357 mag, depending on my mood.
I do on occasion go out with nothing but a handgun deer hunting. It's either the 686 or a .35 Remington T/C Contender. Since TN got rid of the caliber restrictions this year on big game, I've got a .223 Rem barrel I want to try on the first doe I see.
 
FN Herstal Five-Seven is my sidearm when coyote hunting, for those "close encounters" of the furry kind! It's so light you hardly know it's there, along with fast handling,light recoil and great accuracy make it the perfect companion. Not to mention the clip holds 20 rounds! kyray
 
When hunting close to the house, I use a 221 Fireball and a Ruger 22 auto pistol. When in the more open desert I use a 223 Ackley and a T-C G2 with a 12" 22 hornet barrel. When I'm hunting near the mexican border I use a Bushmaster AR and a STI Edge 40 cal with hi-cap's. One size don't always fit all.
 
When it is allowed, IE not bow or muzzle loader seasons, I cary a BH .41m, most of the time is it loaded with heat treated w-w cast 265gr bullets. Hit it with that and they stay down.

Generally one of my Ruger vaqueros 44 mags or one of my Glock 21's or my Ruger Sp101 357 sort of depends on where I am going and what I am hunting. The Sp or Glocks are my daily carry anyway

My sidearm is many times my main hunting weapon. When hunting with a rifle or shotgun, I still carry one for snakes, as an alternate/accessory hunting weapon (possibly for alternate game), or just for fun.

It's usually a Ruger single action (Blackhawk, Super Blackhawk, Single Six, Vaquero, or New Vaquero) in .45LC, .44, .357, .32, or .22; if not one of those, it's either a Ruger MkII or 22/45 or a Glock 34 or 35.
 
I used to carry one, but just don't anymore. I think I decided that if I couldn't kill it or whack it ( and then kill it) with my rifle, it was just my time. Plus, as I got older I had to cut down on weight.
