Which $1000 Scope

2muchgun being the caring soul I am I will take that scope off your hands to prevent any chance of heart break to you on future hunts LOL!!!

Have you looked at a bushnell elite 4.5-30x50 at $899.00? I'm not sure on the overall quality, I looked through it during the middle of the day for a short period of time and it seemed pretty nice butthat does not mean it is a good scope. You would have to judge for yourself. It does offer good power option from being 4.5 all the way to 30.I currently use a NF due to the fact I change bullet weights from 110 grain to 200 grain so I use the target turrents to adjust my scope per load. I would have suggested this scope but it does not fit in the price range, however I still think you should look at the 4.5-30x50.

When it gets up to 4 quotes within quotes, I generally quit reading. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I just sold one 6500 and I am trying to sell my last one now!

And the less need you have for money to pay your rent at the ridiculous prices quoted here. if you are paying that kind of money for a scope you are part of the problem, no wonder they expect us to pay 4.00 for a gallon of milk ! we obviously have to D**M much money !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No with an attitude like that...your the problem!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I just bought a NIB Leupold LPS and a NIB VX-III 3.5-10x50 Illuminated Reticle. I paid less than $1200 for both of them combined!! I am by no means rich, I have to sell stuff to buy stuff mos of the time. THat is why I sold both my 6500's to get the Leupolds. I could not pass up the deal on those Leupolds!!

My nomination is the Burris Six X series. I like the looks of the 2-12 X 50. 30mm tube with the exit pupil rating of 25. Wowsers, this baby should really be bright.

Sadly they don't quailify for this thread as they retail over $1K.

I really do like my Burris Black Diamond 30mm 3-12 X 50 (thanks 1 Shot) However, I think the SIX X bad boy might be a real upgrade.

Not always, but often, maybe even usually, you do get what you pay for. Some folks are not willing to sacrifice for, and then of course don't deserve the best. Afraid I may be a Capitolist who has outlived Capitolism. We all pick our pudding. (-:

Assuming you carefully studied & interpreted the specs and information at the link, read in my post that I have the very similar predecessor to my nominee(probably not relevent) and at the risk that your reply is not a masterfully worded rhetorical question; my reply is...If you say so sir.

stanimals2, i cant speak for everybody but i carry a custom built bolt gun with a ziess on it and i carry it everyday on the job. i like nice guns and scopes, i've got a safe full of them. if you think i'm part of the problem well so be it. do you drive a new car or pickup, do you have cable tv, do you ever eat out, go on trips, etc. etc. well i dont, i spend mine on the things i like and and i'm sure you spend yours on the things you like so what makes my way the problem?

Sorry if I was rude.

It seems recommending products in which one has no actual experience with is becoming a trend around here lately.

I've bought PLENTY of stuff that I thought would be good until I actually used it. I pride myself on giving first hand information, I just wish others would do the same. Recommending a $1000 scope (or what have you)to someone that you've never even actually touched does not seem the best method to save our members some time/money/heartache to me.

Again, it has been becoming a sore spot with me lately, you just happened to be the "lucky caller". Nothing personal.....

I use a VX3 4.5-14X40 LR w/B&C reticle on my big game rifle. I like it very much. It kills stuff. That is all.

Nice read though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif

trapper2 I think the point has been missed here, lets try it another way. Why do tickets to a concert, ballgame, play, movie ect cost so much ? Because we pay it thats why so some athlete, executive, actor or ball player can make millions a year and we keep paying it. We pay 4 dollars for gas because they know we will.Is a scope, any scope really worth 1000.00 dollars ? It is as long as we keep them in business. Now as far as personal questions no I dont drive a new car my 4 runner is a 96 last vacation was a 4 day at bike week in 2004 and we ate out tonight for the first time in months. I dont own a 1000.00 dollar scope yet I still hit what I am aiming at and I have been shooting for over 40 years and in all that time I cant think of a time when spending 700.00 dollars more would have saved the day. If your scope is a tool that could save your life I pray that it always works for you regardless what you pay for it trapper2

Thanks for the reply.

I totally understand your sentiment. You make an excellent point! Sorry it has become a sore spot, you might want to have that looked at. (-:

I completely agree with you that personal experience is often the best test. I find that there are some folks (perhaps even here on PM, not you & me) that choose not to consider the possibility that what they have/use is not always the only good choice for everyone.

I sure didn't intend to make any kind of miss representation in my reply. The guy did ask about $1K scopes. I didn't see the part about ONLY FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE NEED REPLY. LOL.

I am sure that you are an open minded person and wish to encourage a free and unfettered exchange of both old and new ideas here.

I know a person (not us of course, I don't know you) who is a "Man of Few Words," most of them foul. Don't ask how that is working out for him.

PS: I don't know a thing about 'em & I'll totally take your word on the A-Bolt thing. (-:

I own scopes ranging from $75 to $1500. The high dollar precision stuff is for just that, competition or saving/taking lives.

I don't feel a $1000 Swarovski or Zeiss is one bit better than a $500 Leupold for big game hunting of any kind. Yes, they have some nice glass, but the Leupy is tougher all day long IMO.

I have yet to see ANY police/military using Swaros or Zeiss. There is a reason for that.

I've no problem whatsoever with a guy using $1000 scope for deer hunting. It's his money and his opinion. My opinion is that it is not justified and I'd rather have 2 $500 scopes. To each their own.

My friend/taxidermist uses an $18,000 scope for predator hunting. I've yet to ask him why.......

Well said! Can't disagree with any of that.

My Bride just called supper. Gotta go have a piece of "Smoked Oyster Pizza" and a bottle of "Bud Select"(my new first choice in adult beverages).

I bet neither will suit most but I like 'em. (-:
