Which 22Mag do you have ??

OK...it's almost time to get out after them, and since I live in a state that only allows rimfire for coyotes (in most places and during the prime season /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) I'm going to buy a WMR. I used the 17HMR last year, and was apprehensive the entire time. Thankfully, I only got one shot and it was at 15 yards broadside (she only ran about a mile /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif)

Which Mag do you guys own, and are you happy with it? I'm "thinking" about possibly a Remmy 597 auto, but I've heard they had a few problems in the past. The Henry rifles look good, also.

And please don't suggest a shotgun....I'm not going that route. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Suggestions? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

Mine is the 93 heavy barreled Savage. I like it quite a bit. Wish it had the accutrigger though. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Hidalgo, I have a Rem 597 22mag with 20" heavy barrel and I am happy with it. The accuracy is good, with the right ammo, and I have had no problems with it feeding or ejecting. That being said, I never load the magazine to full capacity and that may have something to do with it , I don't know. Remington could make better quality magazines though IMHO!

And yes, you may want to do something with the trigger. typical heavy Remington lawyer trigger.

I am the happy owner of a beautiful CZ611. This is a "take-down" rifle with the upper receiver/barrel in one unit (including scope mount).

This rifle is scary accurate and has a good trigger on it (I have yet to see a CZ with a bad trigger--shows my limited experience maybe).

I would buy another one of these if I could find it.

Good hunting.

Im have a Marlin 982vs heavy barrel and it shoots verry well, after I did a trigger job.I had a 93 savage and it shot just as well,I also had a 597 and it shot ok when it shot.I had a lot of feed problems and misfires.I tried several clips (all metal) and about 5 dif.ammo manufactures.
Brought it back to Cabelas and went back to a bolt.Mabe theve improved but Ill never Know.

Not suggesting a shotgun, but you asked what 22 Mag we have.

I have had a Savage 22Mag over a 20 ga, rifle/shotgun combination for almost 40 years. You could use the shotgun up close and the new Hornady 22Mag, 30 grain Vmaxs for the longer shots.

Good luck with your hunting.

I have an anschutz luxus. It is light but will only shoot the new remington
ammo to 1 moa. Had a marlin and it shot like crap. If I had it to do today
I would go with a cz I think. We use them for turkeys, same thing, a 17 is
just not enough bullet. And to try and hit a turkey in the head is just about
not do able in field conditions.

I bought a Marlin 983T last year. I wanted the tube feed instead of the magazine feed because I really didn't like the magazines. It shoots fine and it's accurate enough, problem is that it won't eject. Brand new, right out of the box. It will extract the case from the chamber, but it won't flip it out, so you've gotta shove your little finger in there and try to get it.

I wrote Marlin, they say I have to send it in. And since they've had my H&R Handi Rifle for more than 3 months fitting a barrel, I haven't been in a big hurry to send the 22 mag in.

The other problem is the stock is too short. It's cut for a kid. Being front heavy doesn't help it much either.

I have an old Marlin 783 bolt action rifle that has killed many a vermin. shoots great and has a lot of history.

Marlin bolt action with tube underneath.....
accurate, reliable....

regular 22wmr hollow points if you use a drill bit and
fixture from eabco will open up the hp a little
and seem to give uniform accuracy and flight....and good terminal performance.... take jut enuf out of HP to make them uniform.... don't want to lose too much lead...

I've got a Marlin 982 can't remember the designation but it's a regular contour stainless barrel synthetic stock that Drives Tacks with 40 grain bullets, it hates 50's.
I've got the same model Marlin, but in a Heavy Barrel Stainless laminate in .17hmr, but always grab the cheap little 22mag when I'm headed out to hunt.
The fun thing with these is when I'm at the range with someone who's not familiar with guns, they give me a funny look when I break out two rifle's, two different types of ammo, but only one bolt and clip. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-006.gif

I have the Marlin bolt action ,clip feed ,plastic stock , in stainless steel . It is a real sweetheart. I , also did a trigger job as it had lots of creep before firing. The trigger is very easy to work on and it was the first time I had messed with a trigger and it turned out as good a trigger as I have shot. Nice feel and balance ,accurate ,not bad on the ears and has a lot of hit at it's range limits. Fun to shoot and carry. SM

Thanks for all the input fellows! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I just looked at a Ruger 96/22M lever gun (you guys know how I feel about Rugers /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif). I think that I'm going to give it a try. Nice, tight, little rifle with a short lever throw.

Thanks again everyone! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/bowingsmilie.gif

Since you asked and mentioned Henry, I have the H001M lever action. Man all i can say is love it !!! I mainly use it for red fox and ground hogs, holds 11 rounds and with a good 3x9 scope is way more accurate than i am. quick to shoulder and the smooth action cycles with only two fingers, just feels right. Some people don't like the receiver cover or the barrel bands but for the price and only used on the farm it's kinda hard to beat. Also don't forget the customer service if you should need it is second to none.

marlin 882ss with a touch up job on the trigger. loves winchester supremes and kills good up to 100 yrds. wouldn't trade it for nothin!
