Quote:which is more popular caliber ? id like to say 44 mag . i mean here anyways everone sold out even walmart It sort of depends on the intended use of the caliber...

I have both, but prefer the .357 for 'everyday' use and the .44 strictly for hunting....

The fact that stores only have one caliber in stock may be due to the fact that there is very little call for a specific caliber and high volume purchases for the other, so they don't carry a large selection, other than what is on the shelf...For instance, if Walmart sells a lot of .357, that is what they will re-order on a regular basis, whereas if they sell very little .44, their re-ordering system would shut down the amount of stock on hand...

I think you will like your Taurus... The quality control has improved a bunch over the last ten years...I bought one of their Titanium med frames in .45 Long Colt and the quality was first rate, it just wasn't a comfortable handgun to shoot, even though it had soft cushion grips...I really preferred my .357 to it..

if well all liked the same thing what would be the point right ? i was looking for some 44 mag leverevolution but all they had were 357 ftx. walmart said they sold all of theirs . guess ill just get some ultramax ammo but dont know if i cant hunt with it . it has like 300 ft lbs of energy comes in a artistic box art though

One of my .44 Mags is a Taurus M44. I have had it ever since they started making them around 15 years ago. It is strong and accurate and a pleasure to shoot due to the ported barrel. I think that you should enjoy yours as well. If you like to shoot full house .44 Magnum loads, I personal thoughts are that the big Taurus is going to be the one to have. Sure like mine.

I had a S&W 629 Classic in 44mag, I sold it after 2 years and bought a S&W 686 357 with a 4" barrel, I shoot the 357 alot more than the 44, As I get older maybe I'm just getting weaker wrist. I hand load 357 for myself and 38 special for my wife.

I have both calibers. Won't sell my 44, but I shoot the 357/38 one heck of a lot more, but that's due to shooting Steel Challenge competition.

I haven't bought a factory round in years, but if I were to hunt with either gun, I'd use the 44 with a solid lead, semi-wad cutter, slug weighing somewhere between 250 to 300 grain. But those "leverevolution's" get good press and if they expand like they should, they could be just the ticket.

By shear numbers in the population, my guess would be the 357.
They recoil less so they are easier to control.
Ammo costs less than 44 mag.
Just a guess though.

The recoil on my 357m is not near the recoil on my 44m and the 44 is heavier. Not even sort of close. Blackhawk .357 mag /Super Blackhawk .44 mag Accurate follow ups are much faster for me on the .357, but if you wanted one for hunting I'd go, and do go with the .44 every time.

i want to scope it it takes a bsquare 42305# mount . looking at centerpoint red/green dot their cheapo scope 50$ but my brother has their 4-16x42mm on his lite 30-06 and it holds zero so i likem. probably get some cheapo mounts to for around 9$ . pictures on the computer dont give this gun justice. its look real good . i wanted to get a taurus raging bull 454 but i couldnt get my dad on board it like 200$ more . but i like the blued m44 . it has a flat porting vs the rb series v port

I would think the 357 is more popular. The difference in recoil is alot in my opinion. 44 with a full load is alot of gun and depending on the gun and grip can be manageable or painful. I have never shot an unmanageable 357. However the 357 seems to have worse muzzle blast.

Personally I hate shooting a 357, the volume and pitch of the muzzle blast makes my ears ring no matter what I do, drives me nuts. Mine hasn't left the case in over a decade.

.357/.38spc is much more popular and .44mag/spc I would think... What with every gun store pushing snub nose revolvers on every unknowing man and woman to enter their stores. Along with all the LEO who carry one on the ankle either at work or not, along with the sales of full size guns. Yeah, for hunting anything bigger than a coyote, the .44 would be my choice, but for social circles and mangy old varmints the .357 it is

I think my 4" Colt Trooper in .357 shooting 158gjhp is more punishing than my 5.5" Redhawk in .44mag shooting 240gjhp with both rounds being factory ammo. I now use my Colt to shoot with my wife using target loads in .38sp. The Rugers are divided into .44sp handloaded with 240 swc, and .44mag handloaded with 240g jsp for hunting. The .44sp has become one of my favorites.

As many answers as there are people to answer....I have both, both rugers. A SBH in .44 and a GP-100 in .357. The .44 is my stand alone hunting revolver, but I will carry the .357 with my rifle. Also, the .44 is heavy and kicks quite a bit more than the .357....it's loaded pretty hot though. My scope advice, spend a little extra money and and buy something strong! The .44 recoil can be pretty sharp and reak havoc on a cheaply made scope.

With me it is a tossup.
I have and like both. For everyday use I take the 357. If going in the woods the 44.
The 44 does have more recoil but is heavier so not much more.

I would not be without either.

I have both and would not want to do without either, but I prefer the 357, matter of fact I would not mind getting another 4 or 6" 357.

I too have both calibers. one .44 mag I've had since i was 18 I'm sixty now. It came from Herters. I've also a Dan Wesson with a 6"barrell and a red dot. Can shoot 50 cent pieces at 50 yards. and a newly acquired Rugar 6" barrel I use for my side arm in the woods. As I too get older the .357's are more manageable but my love is .44 mag.

I shoot a Henry .357 levergun. Not sure if it is my favorite rifle, but it certainly gets shot more than any other rifle I own.
