Which is the best action for a 220 Swift build?

I realize that there will be many different opinions on this subject. Here's the deal: I have always wanted a Swift and now only Remington offers a rifle so chambered. Fellas, that particular Remington just doesn't do anything for me. I would prefer a 1/12 twist barrel so I could shoot bullets up to the mid 60s in weight. And the barrel on the Remington is too big for my tastes (ditto the stock). So, I am left with the option of looking for an action and having a new barrel installed.

Where would you start? I have some ideas on the subject but would like your opinions. This build has been in the planning stages for a couple of years now and by golly, I am going to get on with it (FINALLY)!

If it were me I would buy a Stevens short action caliber, sell the barrel and go to Savage Shooters Supply and order a 220 Swift barrel. I have always been a fan of Savage rifles.

Sportsmens Warehouse has the Stevens for $269 right now.

Mainly for coyotes. I will have a 26" heavy sporter contour barrel installed. Really, I'm just trying to decide which donor action to use. I'm more of a CRF type of guy but that is not a huge concern with this rifle.

"shoots in the mid .1's all day long @ 100."
This is a joke right? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smiliesmack.gif
The best BR shooters in the world with money is no object rifles and many years of competition can not do that.

You obviously are in the BR hall of fame. What would your name be there?

It's kinda weird though the forum suddenly is full of guy's experiencing sub-par performance from Savage's..MOA group's & such..Not sure what to think..

... with your keyboard!

hmmmmmm ever thoght of a .223 WSSM , just might be as fast as the almighty swift , but to each his own .

now i'm ducking for cover fer theres bullets gonna be flyin

jest me $.o2

I am a big swift fan...
Having said that I am also a fan of the 22-250.
Hornady factory ammo has the velocities the same from both rounds.
If you would settle for a 22-250 you could find a factory rifle that meets your criteria

Jack it was mentioned that it was "exceptional" example. I now understand that none of my guns are exceptional even if I do my part.

Honestly for a full custom $$$ is the factor. Panda is nice but there are just to many custom actions to list. Go with your check book and how long you want to wait. Denny

Oh, and for the smart aleck with the "If I do my part" comment( I just looked, it was Catshooter, /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif wow, shouldn't have even had to look), When you have a 16 pound gun sitting on sand on a solid bench rest, there's not much human factor there, unless you're blind and can't put the reticle on the same spot on the target each time. I didn't include that qualification because I don't feel that my skills or lack there of, have much to do with the way the gun shoots when it's sitting solid. I say this, because I can't hit s#!t without a good rest, even prone with a bi-pod gives me trouble. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Old Chinese proverb:

"When fool dig himself into hole, no interfere, sit back and watch!"

You hijacked it - it's now your thread, just keep on diggin', you're doing fine.
