Which one? .17 HMR or .17 WSM?

I know several coon hunters that bought HMR's and went back to their .22WMR's because the HMR wasn't sufficient in stopping coons. And I've shot a few coons with mine. Some went quietly, most required a second shot.

dang chupa. i read on the internet that it guts and skins those coons at 50 yards. they shouldnt need 2 rounds.

I actually like the .17 mach2 for raccoons, it is a little underpowered for most people but ive never had any problems getting a head shot & if your a trapped you also have to think about exicuting them while there in the trap and the hmr makes a pretty exit hole at point blank range. Lol.. as far as skinning em on impact at 50yards I've never seen it my self & I'd need to see it to believe it..
 
A .22LR to the brain will kill a coon 100% of the time. A ball bearing from a wrist rocket to the brain will kill a coon % 100 of the time. So why are even talking about shooting them in the head to illustrate the efficacy of the .17HMR? That little plastic toothpick at the end of your Swiss Army knife to the brain will kill a coon 100%. I just don't see how it should even be a variable in this discussion.
