Who hunts solo

99% alone. I love to have my grown children along or the land owner. It just doesn't seem to work out very often. Always nice to have someone cover area's I can't see without spinning around. Rudy

I've been hunting and trapping alone most of my life. Occasionally I hunt with a partner and have partnered a couple time for traplines but I prefer to be alone. When I hunt with a partner I feel like I need to produce critters. If it is a bad day I enjoyed the scenery and some days I just don't have it in me and it is a real push because I have to stay all day with a partner.

Hunting with someone else changes everything...though not always in a bad way. I have a way of playing hunches that often work out, hunches that I might ignore if another hunter is with me.

Alone, I follow my intuition without question or hesitation, and a lifetime of hunting experience gives me insights that I am probably not even aware of on a conscious level. I am sure a lot of you older fellows know exactly what I am trying to say. It's like a tight focus; submerging yourself in the hunt, until that is all that exists.

Not me. I hate hunting alone. I DO enjoy the solitude and the wonders of nature, but I like to "share" my experiences. I have hunted elk alone and I have hunted deer alone. Both had there moments of joy and inner reflection blah blah blah, but I NEED company. If I don't have someone there to harass and BS with I end up talking to myself and that is NEVER a good thing....

In my years of calling (1995 to recent years), I hunted on my own except for 9 or 10 days.

It wasn't that I didn't want to hunt with other people.
It was simply that I really didn't know any other guys that called, who lived close enough to hunt with.

Solo prob 99% of the time. I have hunted with a buddy a few times but usually I go on days that friends are busy. Plus, hardly any of my friends call coyotes. As I get older it is my mind about the safe thing.

Mostly by myself. One buddy doesn’t like to get up early and has family responsibilities. Another has to work(I’m retired).

I hunt alone 36.4% of the time

I wish I could find a hunting partner, but I only trust good buddies and family. I always think if I ask people to hunt with me they will tell my spots on Facebook or something.

The few guys I like to hunt with work when Im off.

I usually hunt with my cousin on the weekends, but usually alone if I take a day off during the week. Having a reliable down wind guy can really pay off. So anymore I try and get someone to go with me.

I hunt probably 75% of the time alone. I like being alone but to be honest something about bringing my idiot buddies with ends up getting me more coyotes, they don't get anything but I do, I can't explain it.

I hunt solo just about all the time, I've hunted with a partner before just cuz I wanted another set of eyes cuz you can't kill what you can't see.

I also find it interesting to see guys say they hunt alone 100% of the time and are "more successful". How do you know that if you've never hunted with someone?

Great thread!

I do both, probably about half and half. When my son in law goes with me it seems like we see more coyotes, at least he does. I try to give him the better, downwind position with his younger eyes. We have done okay calling them, now we just have to get better at hitting them. We have been putting in more range time and that should help.

99% solo here, too. Same reasons as most, just never seem to find people who like to do it, and also have the same schedule. Some, just aren't safe to hunt with... leaning a loaded rifle with the safety off against the side of a polyester blind... bonking you in the face with a rifle barrel as they swing on running game... you know.

I've had some great hunts with friends, but moved to a different part of the state a number of years back and just haven't made connections with like-minded people, yet.
