who shoots a .17 cal or a smaller .22 cartridge= fur friendly

Friend of mine had 17-222 and wasn't as great a shotter as it should have been. Can't remember witch it was, but it would not shoot good at all with ball or extruded powers. The one it liked it did pretty darn well with, the other was all over the place.
After his problems I went with the 17 Mach-IV. By far at the time the better of the wildcats, at least in my experience.
Then the 17 Rem came along.
Picked up one in the 80's, it'd shoot under 1" with factory stuff but I couldn't get reloads to out do the factory stuff so I got rid of it.
Won't own a rifle I can't shoot reloads in and be better than factory stuff. It's a personel thing i guess.

I have been using 4320 in my 17's since 1980, runs nice burns clean, i tried re-15, i got more speed out of it, according to my chronograph almost 4200 with a horn 25hp, but not the 3/4 inch groups that 4320 gives at just shy of 4000.

I just added another 2 yoties to the tally this am. These two make 16 straight with no exits, no runners and no losses. Love this calibre for fur. 50 yards to 300+ it hasnt let me down

That's impressive.

To be honest I did have one flop, get up, flop and then crawl 25 feet into some grass. But it was dead when I got there. It was a 200 yard hard quartering away shot that may not have reached far into the lungs.

I have several centerfire 17 calibr rifles and enjoy all of them !

The 17 WCH ( western coyote hunter ) is simply a 17 predator a.k.a. 17/223 reamer ran deeper. Brass is made from 204 brass necked down to 17 caliber and fireformed. I am in the process of getting Dave Kiff at pacific tool and gauge to make me the first set of 17 WCH reamers. I am wanting to make another rifle and get a set of dies made for it. I am pushing 30 grain kindlers 4200 fps. What's not to love?
