Why do you coyote hunt?

I had only hunted a coyotes a couple of times in my life ,until two years ago when my dad started wanting to go. Now I go cause he wont stop bothering me. No he is turning 70 this year and will go out all day if we can.Its a great way to spend time with him and my three sons so it dont get any better.

Raising my family on deer and elk meat, the hunt is still in me.
The family is gone now so I don't need the meat, and my last elk and deer didn't taste good.
I'm now enjoying not to have to hassle with the complicated rules and regulations, and the expense and work that big game seasons bring. There isn't a hunter behind every nook and cranny either. I can go when I wish, good weather or bad. I have sat in a bush at -11 degrees so I know bad.
I could go on but I feel just about like NM HighPlains post above.
Coyote hunting isn't as exausting as other hunting either.
It keeps me in shape,.....somewhat.
Guns, reloading, campouts, Biology, quitting early if no luck is a big bonus too. Lots and Lots,,

i am new to predators myself but its getting addicting already...for me its a mix of the 2 best seasons for me...i love to Turkey Hunt...love the calling part and trying to out smart them...then you have deer hunting...great game anmial to hunt not no where near as vocal as turkeys to calling and so on but smart anmials very much so and its a great challengs....and i love guns....so coyote hunting is a mix of both...love the calling part the guns and the callenge of hunting the hunters...makes for a fun time...so far i have only been out once..but it was fun just to try...still learning myself...so cant wait to make it out again

Waiting all year long to shoot once at a deer or turkey seems an awful waste to me. That one trip people look forward to may be ripped with rain, snow, ice, wind and more. Or it may not.

Predator (coyote) hunting can be at your own leisure when you want to go.
You can plan a long anticipated trip or go spur of the moment.
You don't need to be young or physically fit to be successful.
Rifles, shotguns and pistols get the job done.
No need for expensive or special equipment.
You learn new areas and see more wildlife for other hunting opportunities.
You open new doors and friendships with landowners that could also grow into other hunting opportunities.
Wildlife is a renewable resource if managed properly.
As a hunter you are an extension to all wildlife agencies.
Your licenses and expenses help grow the economy.
You'll gain a better understanding about wildlife in general and habitat.
It makes you feel good knowing that you really pi$$ of a bunny-hugger.
You'll know when someone is feeding you tripe and be able to turn the tables on those that think they know everything.
You become a better all-round hunter because you are tuned in to greater details.
Predator hunters are among the best marksmen in the hunting world.
You learn to subconsciencely (sp) anticipate wildlife movements before they move.

What do you do with a carcass? You become a better photographer and graciously feed other wildlife.

Are coyotes pests? Not all of them.
Are coyotes vermin? Not all of them.
Are coyotes killers? Yes. All of them.

All coyotes have the tools, ability and wherewithall to cause damage.

i started hunting casue it was a great past time to get out in the country and spend quality time with my brother.... and its a blast and the biggest challenge tlrying to figure out what the next one is going to do guessing what they will do is like guessign the lottery ticket its a great thrill if you win on either still waiting to get that thrill lol

I always liked coyote hunting but for years felt zi should first get a deer or an elk or atleast spend the whole season trying. Now I enjoy coyote hunting as much or more than any other. I like the calling and feel a rush when they respond. I make my own calls so that adds alot to it. Kinda like the folks who tie their own flies get a bigger kick out of catching a fish. Anyways at my age you learn that if something brings you enjoyment don't question why just be glad for it.

I hunt coyotes because it is my passion and my obsession...It is nothing to kill a stupid ole deer...Set there all day and say well there he is,,,,bang! Ive done it even with a bow.... The more deer that are eat by coyotes means the more coyotes that I can hunt...I hope they breed well! I could have 10 and 12 pointers walk by me all day but give me a coyote or a fox and all is good! Hunting coyotes is the real skill, everything else is just gravy....I will say this though, hunting whitetails in my younger years has brought me to where I am now .....Im sorry but hunting anything else does not trip my trigger...My opinion....

This is a great thread. Growing up I did a lot of bird hunting; pheasants, ducks, quail, and chukar. Slowly the land that I had permission to hunt was consumed by devolopers and houses were built. Also my hunting dog died of old age. Coyote hunting is the only thing I hunt now. Like someone else said, I have had many hobbies, but coyote hunting is funnest of them all. I love getting out to places that most people won't. I love trying my wits against 'Wiley'. And most important it is something my teenage son and I enjoy doing together. Coyote hunting has given me plenty of opportunities to teach my son life lessons. Durwin

For me I found that the challenge in taking deer and elk was losing it's appeal. It was still a rush to see them, but I did not find the challenge in sitting and waiting for them to walk by. I had tried bow hunting, but the equipment at the time was not as user friendly.

My hunting partner introduced me to predator hunting by taking me on a hunt and calling in 2 foxes. It was absolutely amazing to watch the foxes come in, and to realize that I was matching wits with another predator. I have been burned many times by coyotes and evertime it humbles me. And we place ourselves at the top of the food chain.

When I go out now, I really like the challenge. I can learn so much from every hunt, ones that work as well as the ones that do not. And the friendships that I have built from the predator hunting community are priceless. I had never before seen a group of hunters so willing to take in a new comer and that are so open in sharing information and lessons. predator hunters are truly a special breed.

I hunt coyotes cause I can kill one, walk away and go kill another one. No cleaning (other than stripping the tail) no skinning, no BS. Just kill it and then go kill another one, thats my style.

I tell you what guys, I'm very impressed with the number of replies I've got. Thank you all very much! I have been bass fishing all my life, I'm 27. I love bass fishing as much as any one on here loves predator hunting. I like to trophy bass fish. It's hunting too; just with different equipment. I go on various fishing sites, have for years; and I don't think I've ever seen this many replies to any question so fast. I think I'm going to like this site a lot. I won't be much help for a while, but maybe on down the road:)~! LOL

Here are a few pics of what I hunt if you don't mind. Some of you may have already seen some of the pics.

Those are just some of them:)! Hopefully the next pic I post will have something furry in it! LOL

Thanks again guys for ALL the replies. I've been searching coyote hunting on the internet for the past few days and didn't find much that interested me. Finally remembered that the two calls I orderd were called predator calls; so I typed in predator hunting and this site came up. Glad it did!

Later and keep the replies coming,

Arden

Holy cow! Those are some huge bass! Have you ever been to Hemphill, TX? To Toledo Bend Lake? Thats where you need to go for some awesome bass fishing...

Why do I hunt coyotes?

I've wondered that myself a few times. Mostly I think it's because I love messing with 'em. Some people like playing head games with each other; I like playing head games with coyotes.

'Course, sometimes the tables turn and they mess with me too, but it's all part of the game.
