Wolf hunting caliber

I'll agree with ruger300 on calibers. I've got a couple of 243's that probably would be my top choice, but if they run the hunting concurrent with big game season then my 280 Remington or the 8mm Rem mag will be with me for deer or elk.

Though a wolf is quit a bit bigger than a coyote as ruger says "a wolf is just a bigger varmint".

One thing for sure that should make a dandy hide to put on the wall. In fact I'd kinda like to have all the walls covered. Perhaps that would leave me an elk to shoot with that old 8mm mag.
I also shoot an 8mm mag . It’s an odd duck but I love it

Never rifle hunted them, but killed one with a bow in Alaska, while grizzly hunting. My inexperienced opinion is 24 or larger caliber. I have a custom 240 weatherby that I think would work quite well.

Still was having a few coyotes that would run at least a few yards with decent shots using 69 TMKs @ 3150 out of my AR. Switched to 6DTI & 75 Vmax, 99% solved now. If hunting something larger than a coyote, that either it or it's buddies could decide to take out their frustrations on me, I'm using something more than a 223.

If I go again, I would use a FWD 25/06 or a .270.
I lost one with the old 25/06. Tracked blood through a canola field for almost a mile and lost trail at the woodline.
Not blaming the caliber at all. Just stating that it's not unfoulable.
Could have been poor bullet selection (speer 100gr hp) or just plain piss poor bullet placement.
Second wolf that week, lucked into, that had mange.
