Worst Gun I Ever Owned!!

I'll have to agree with glock29. I had a Ruger ranch rifle. That is a sorry excuse for a gun. Can't believe Ruger would even put thier name on that gun. Mine was about the same on accuracy, about 8 MOA. Hell the bolt even broke on mine. I sent it back to Ruger & they fixed it for free but as soon as it was back in my hands I pawned it off on somebody else as fast as I could. That person was tickled to death to have it & I even let him take it & test fire it for a couple of days. I'm not saying anything bad about Ruger guns because I have one other rifle & 3 Ruger pistols and love them. Ruger's service was second to none in my opinion. Probably the best & fastest service I've ever gotten from any company that I had to deal with over the phone & email. Overheard a guy in the local gunshop bragging about his Mini 14, saying that he could spin the cap off of a pop bottle at 100 yards with his. I just kind of chuckled & walked off.
 
I have two candidates.

First for worst mechanical reliability the award goes to a Marlin
Model 60 .22lr. Fail to feed, and fail to fire, were normal operation
for this rifle after the first 10 rounds. I won it at a DU banquet,
so I wasn't out money paid for the gun. It was traded in as part
of a deal, for a new T/C Encore pistol, in SS/Composite, with a 15"
308 Win barrel.

The worst accuracy award would go to this same T/C Encore
pistol, and .308 Win. barrel. My fully rifled shotguns out
shot the Encore...Actually it's groups look more like a buckshot
pattern check with the 10 ga. I sent it in to T/C and they
re-crowned the barrel, and now it is in the 1 to 1.5 MOA range,
which is a big improvement, but has it still qualifying as my
poorest accuracy rifle caliber firearm.

My worst was a Winchester Mod. 70 .243 with the removable box magazine. The chamber wasn't finished properly, so I couldn't close the bolt with a shell in the chamber. Everytime I fired it, the cases stuck on another imperfection in the chamber, which scored the side of every pice of brass fired in the gun. It shot O.K., I was unimpressed with the quality control however. Traded it for the the rifle in my sig. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

Just the thought of that gun makes me want to dig it out and trow it on the ground again.

I have never owned a Remmy 710, and that is only the first half of that song.

I do, however, own 3 lefty Savage rifles, in .223 Rem, .250 Savage, and .284 Winchester calibers. I would not trade one of them for 3 Remmy 710's(unless I could sell them to some sucker that hunts once a year and likes a Remmy 710).


I agree with a lot of people that Savage rifles are as ugly as can be, but, boy, do they shoot!!!! A friend of mine owns and operates a small gun shop, and has the opportunity to install scopes and work up loads for a lot of different rifles. In order to do this, he has to actually fire the rifles he's working on. He will vouch for the accuracy of the Savages, and the lack of quality and accuracy in some of the other well-known brands. The Savages are the most accurate rifles, out-of-the-box.

BTW, how many Savages have you owned??? If you had ever owned a Savage, you would throw rocks at that Remmy 710, because you would realize what a pile of junk it really is. The name on it means nothing if it won't shoot accurately.

I also own a Remington 700 BDL in .30-'06 Spfld., that I have owned and used for 23 years. (bought new in 1982). The Remingtons today are a poor contrast to this older one.

The absolute worst pieces of crap ever made were the little AR-7's, 22 Rimfire rifles, that I bought for my two sons years ago. They were the ones you could take the barrel off and store it in the plastic stock. Neat concept, but the only time they were any good was when you didn't try shooting them. If you tried to shoot them, they were a nightmare. If you were lucky, you could get the first round to go off, but forget about feeding any rounds from the magazine for further shots. They were the rifles that the manufacturer claimed would float. I think I tried to see how good they would float on a voyage I had planned on sending them from Michigan to Wisconsin on Lake Michigan. They didn't make it and are long gone, thank God. Man were they aweful.

Well I have owned 3 savages, 1 340 in 22 hornet,great gun no problems. The other two POS were both the 110 series, will never buy any more savages becuse of them! Remington 710 best out of the box accuracy I have ever seen! Better than my other remington, winchester, browning, savage, or sig.(all bolt actions)I,m talking three shots touching at 100yds from a bench rest in .270win, day in day out for the 3yrs I,ve owned this rifle.Last year my son-in law with his savage in .270win gave up trying to come close to me at the range said he could not belive what my gun could do, if the 710 came in left hand he would trade in a heartbeat.
 
Savage model 16 ss .204 Ruger with "Craputrigger" it was the worst feeling trigger ever invented. Gun didnt shoot good groups either.2nd savage Ive owned, the other was a 22-250 pre accutrigger days didnt shoot well either
 
I guess I'm surprised because I've own a few of the rifles mentioned here, and they're among my favorites. One mans meat is another mans poison I guess. Best wishes.

Not the worst that I ever OWNED but the worst mistake I ever made in a purchase was when I bought a 600 Remington in 308. I was young and just re-enlisted in the military(I was rich) and I had access to an unlimmited supply of 308 ammo so I thought that it was a great deal--$149 out the door in about 1965. That damn 18 inch, 5 1/2 pound gun knocked hell out of my shoulder and my ears! Neat to carry but hell to shoot. It was fairly accurate with handloads but when I had a chance to trade it off for a 722 in .222 Rem Mag, I jumped at it! But it was really a pretty good designed action.

Winchester model 100 in .308. It's supposed to be a semi-automatic, but works like a singleshot ratch-action. So far it's stumped myself, two brothers, Dad, and two experienced gunsmiths. My dad had one about 20 years ago, and it was just the opposite of mine. It would chain-fire two rounds each shot/s.
 
Man all this talk about salvage vs. the 710...
I own both a Savage 12bvss w/accutrigger and a 710 in 06.
Both ate accurate must admit the remmy is a shooter for being a $300 gun, it will shoot 180's at 1.25" and 150's at 1.5". The Savage will shoot consistant .2" groups and as far as the remmy goes about triggers, after adjustment and playing with it for hours isn't a pimple on the accutriggers a$$. Would have traded the 710 by now but it was a gift from my father in law. I only shot one deer with it and it sat for a while, when I pulled it out to let a friend borrow it the magazine retention clip had broke. I called Remmington and they didn't even ask for a serial number just my address and in a week I had a new stock. Must be a popular problem.
Savages are a tool that takes a pounding and will shot even though they are ugly, they are a tool and the best value out there. But the old 06 is what got me into reloading so I can't really talk to bad now.
 
H&R .22/.22mag revolver - shaves bullets out of the mag.cylinder, will blowback enough powder to pepper your face and has a trigger pull somewhere between 1/10 oz. and change your mind (down right dangerous)
Still have it - couldn't think of anyone I disliked enough to give it to.
 
The worst rifle I ever owned was a Ruger Ranch Rifle in .223 The best way to hit the side of a barn (from the inside) was to swing it like a baseball bat.
