WTSHTF what are you doing to prepare...tips,tactics,strategies

SuperCavScout, Good items for thought... we're seeing some of that already in place with the Illegals coming across the border and the Muslims settling in lightly populated areas... The political structure is already being manipulated in some cases...

Fortunately, I too live in one of the areas that you describe, the town is 45 minutes from downtown St Louis, but fiercely independently 'red neck' by most standards, even though some try to act sophisticated and 'uptown'...It's just enough off the beaten track that the majority of those trying to flee the populated areas will bypass us on the interstate, fourteen miles away...

The prevailing winds would take any contaminants in the opposite direction...

BTW, if you need a Mayor for you new place give me a shout as I have a good copy of Roberts Rules of Order so we can keep order in the getaway place. My fall back position is at the United Veterans Colony 9 miles due south of Wilburton, OK where we have 800+ acres just over the barbed wire fence from the Yourman Wildlife Management Area where the deer and turkey are so thick you can't miss!

Honorably Discharged Veterans may join for about $200 and have a lot assigned to them to build on, or buy out a current Members place some of which are very nice.

GOTO United Veterans Colony

That's interesting, first time I've ever heard about Veterans Colony. I wonder if there are any more secrets like that around?

Most of us that went thru alot of the hooah schools are like minded anyway. YOU GOT THAT RIGHT !
Although i dont see a lot of (A.T.F , D.E.A , F.B.I. , S.W.A.T. , ETC...) Doing a lot (they got familys to). Ive chatted with a couple and they said they dont get paid enough to take on a large group of SURVIVALIST / MILITARY trained people...Didnt say i believe this i just heard it....( It's like a snake they can turn on ya at any time....)TRUST NO-ONE !!!!!
( Ask any soldier to recite their oath of enlistment, what is the first thing we swear alliegence too?)
Most of us REMEMBER all to well....

O'h and SUPERCAVSCOUT how in the heck did you break your leg during a language phase ? didnt use the right amount of force when you incerted boot in someones a$$... (just kidding) (bleep happens) AND THANKS FOR SERVING !!!!!

I am originally from the burbs of the nation's capital. After this overseas tour, I plan on retiring from the military (I'm a reservist now) and relocate from central Virginia to (I know this will make eyes roll) to a small town in Wisconsin.

I had to make one concession with the significant other. She's from that very same small town and teaches kindergarten. So she understands my mentality very well. I probably won't continue to be a teacher in the civilian sector though. I will probably be the stay at home dad and do the homeschooling.

The United War Veterans Colony in Oklahoma is NOT A SECRET! They are a US Congress Chartered fraternal Veterans Organization with it's own Volunteer Fire Department, a Museum on property, and parade ground and picnic pavilion constructed by the CCC years ago, and 'a creek runs through it'!

Yours truly happens to be Member #1192, who had the wisdom and extra cash to sign on way back when the origination fee was only $100!

If you write Deanna Schlee at the e-mail you will find @ United War Veterans Colony, she will mail you an Application and description of the 800+ acres, and if you blow her a hug and a kiss, Deanna might even also include a List of the Lots and/or cabins remaining available!

my girlfriend the english major looks over my shoulder and spell checks for me. She tries so hard for me to write better sentences, but I've had too many years using the army writing style, besides, I'm a science major.

Colonel Asbury served on the U S Army Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, KS for about 6 years so I can tutor you if you wish! (I gave almost everyone A grades that they gave me an award for best Teacher! LOL!

Yeah I was bummed, but then I'm not a spring chicken anymore. But at least I finished all the useful portions of the course. And that is something that cannot be taken from me.

I found the information about the Veterans Colony, pretty interesting and very inexpensive. The Colony may as well have been a secret , I don't think it's widely known or they wouldn't have any space left. How many people are living there now? I spent 13 months at Ft. Sill, nice people down there.

Yeah a lot of us aint spring chickens anymore ( And no they cant take that away from ya )

Vet Colony is not crowded on the 800+ acres, which we sell the timber off every now and then to augment the Treasury which is held mostly in long term Cd/s! Everyone has to be in a position to cover his expenses as only the lot is free!

My wife and I live in Oklahoma City and go to Ft. Sill once a month!

About 2/3's of the Veteran Colony Membership are non-residents awaiting the time in their life when they want a nice, quiet place in the San Bois Mountains which includes a very nice iron fenced Cemetery and a very well constructed Marksmanship Range appropriately aimed South, in the direction of the late great State of Tejas! (Go OU!)

You and my uncle shared the same dirt. My father was an F-4 pilot over there, then flew a desk at the pentagon after I was born. I havn't joined the Ranger association yet. I was only tabbed, never assigned to a ranger batt.

Hooooah! This is one of your lucky days as Colonel Asbury can fix you up with the US Mountain RANGER ASSN!

It so happens I made into the Mountain RANGER ASSN the proverbial 'hard way'! I was re-cycled twice, did the Mountain Phase twice, and was not tabbed because the Flight Surgeon told me if I did not get off my right leg, he would possibly have to amputate below the knee. He sent my back to Camp Darby/Benning in the back of a truck loaded with rifles and I was given one of them + 1 live round to act as the Security.

However, some clerk had already stamped my 201 File with the two words........................RANGER TAB..............and when they got the word I would not be @ Graduation (only 33 of my original Company made if there, and not all of them were 'tabbed'!)

The clerical staff did not erase RANGER TAB from my File but merely drew a single diagonal line through the RANGER TAB Award.

When I got to South Vietnam, is was just after TET and just before mini-TET, so they assigned me to a TO&E Unit requiring a Ranger qualified Officer in which I was awarded the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, a Bronze Star with "V" device, a Bronze Star with OLC, and the Combat Infantry Badge!

Find the United States Mountain Ranger Association/Dahlonega, GA and they will make you a Member in good standing because you were 'tabbed'!

You can see my name on their Roster under Col. Sam H. Asbury, III!

Hooooooah!

But to get back on topic,
How many will really "Know" everything to make it with just their family? I sure don't.
And just how far back will civilization be set?
I think not to the stone age but at least to the late steam era. How many of us know the inner workings of steam power? Or how to make alternate fuels? How about gardening? I read alot of hunting and fishing plans but even these resources would be finite. Especially with the influx of refugees from the cities, they will displace any wildlife in an area. I myself have a black thumb, if you want something dead, ask me to plant it. That's where my girlfriend comes in.
As far as cottage industry? I think we all know how to fix and maintain firearms. But what about tool making? Metalworking? Mills and milling?
Not to mention ranching, cattle, sheep, draft animals etc..
Generators for off the grid living is a good idea, but depending on what is was that hit the fan in the first place, alot of the repair parts/ fuel and the technical know how to fix will be in short order only to be non-existant as time moves on. I don't claim to be an expert in everything. But one thing I think would be important to have is a well equipped library with a lot of 'how-to' books on quite a many subjects. This alone takes up space and weight and is not viable for those planning to BUG OUT from their current location.

I will certainly look into it. with the Army going all digital now, alot of soldiers 201 files have been getting jacked up. I lost 6 years of service because my active duty time somehow became 'non participating' reserve time so my retirement points were alot less than what they should have been
By the way, you are in no relation to a CSM Brian Asbury (Ret)? He was my platoon sergeant when I was stationed in Ft. Riley from 89-93
