WV Mountain Lion???

Ok, the short version of the story... My cousin lives in an upscale neighborhood in west virginia. Houses are fairly close together and mainly owned by doctors lawyers etc. Her and her step dad were awoken a few weeks back by the screaming of an animal. When the went outside and shined a flashlight, they said they seen a large cat running away. When they reported this to the DNR, they claimed that this was roadkill, and it was staged. They submitted the prints and some photos to the nearby cabelas, and they are doing their own investigation. That brought on an event and some other photos being submitted. Here are the pictures taken right outside of my cousins house the next morning.

and this here is one of the other pictures that was submitted to cabelas from a local persons trail camera. my question to you, is this a really big bobcat or mountail lion??

either way, this is a VERY bizzar case, and why would th DNR be trying to hide/cover this up saying it was roadkill placed there? (btw, there were no drag marks from any roads, side yards or from any tire tracks. Just tracks of a cat, and deer......) So hmmmm... something seems a little fishy here!

would a bobcat take a deer down like that? I thought they were more passive on larger game and went after rabbit and the like?

Most lion kills have loose single hairs all over the place near the kill. It also looks like the back left leg is broken and front left is missing from knee down. A bobcat might have fed on it but it is not a lion kill. the last bic is a bobcat.

Geeze, 08/14/08. That's a nice up to date picture.

That deer carcass looks like it was pretty roughed up. Broken and twisted legs, much like a roadkill. The deer may of been hit, wandered in the nieghborhood and died there or was finished off there and fed on. Coyote(s), bobcat, domestic dog may of all had a piece during the night.

Tracks kinda look canine to me.

Outside of some food for the local critters, I don't have a clue what ya got going there.

Good eye. I overlooked it twice.

I doubt a coon would fare well with a big bobcat. Coons don't do too well with a pair of coyotes either...

Sure doesn't add up to be a lion kill, it looks staged.

The whole side of the deer's hide has been removed but the only scavenging I can see is on the rump. Lions typically go for the viscera first. The enter the chest cavity through the last couple ribs and eat the heart and lungs. Also at lion kill scenes is usually alot of hair scatter around, because they will shear it off with their incisors before they tear in.

The deer's hind leg is broke. More typical of a roadkill than a lion kill. Also, the tracks are dog tracks and the last pic is a bobcat... just my opinion...

A bear is the only thing I know that will skin a deer before eating it, looks like a bobcat came and snacked on what was left, wouldn't rule out road kill though.

I seen the last picture in person 2yrs ago at whitetails unlimited banquet. it was taken in the dallas pike area near cabelas there was a picture in the outdoor section of the paper about three weeks ago of someone near Dallas that got a bobcat.
The tracks look like dog to me.

Looks to me like

1. Dog Tracks
2. Road Kill
3. Bobcat Pic

Mountain Lions are usually sighted everywhere but where there are actually Mountain Lions

I live about three counties down on the ohio river.Have coon hunted all over WV have saw just a lot of different animals in those thirty years of night hunting never a moutain lion.Consider the thousands of trail cameras in the WV woods. I have saw pics of bears, coyotes.bobcats etc. where are the mountain lions. Not to dispute anyone, just saying where are the verifiable pics

where's the picture at? if there's enough trail cams out there to get a pic of a bobcat having a stand-off with a coon or two yotes stretching a coon out or a bobcat killing a deer then i'd say if there were any mt. lions there someone would have those pix as well. and all the hunters in the woods? i've heard so many people say they seen a mt. lion even while they were hunting and nothing. not calling ya'll liars or anything like that but every now and then someone should have some proof. i personally made a post about a possible mt. lion not real long ago. well it wasn't a mt. lion. sometimes our mind and imagination play tricks on us guys.

I think there were two confirmed sets of Mountian Lion tracks found in Grant Count a few years back .I think they were of a larger and smaller set. Don`t remember just how long ago it was.

Here is a perfect example of outdoorsmen not knowing what the heck they are talking about.
